We already take great pride in the Mattson APS21PANTHERA system project. It is an incredible design solution to efficiently protect players’ ankles when engaged in contact sports. it is both ergonomically effective and very comfortable. All these advantages come without affecting performance thanks to the free movement system.
Our current goal is to produce a first production run and set up basic production to meet demands in a niche market.

These types of injuries sideline almost 32% of all players in different contact sports worldwide, particularly in football, baseball and soccer. These injuries have a terrible effect on children, who leave sports for fear of making things worse after their first injury. They also affect players at all levels, whether juniors, seniors, and professionals who lose out on career choices and exposure. Football clubs are also directly impacted, given the potential millions lost on their investment in a player.

We want to take care of what matters most, player health and peace of mind.
This system can be extended to many countries, helping to prevent millions of sports injuries a year at all levels among children, youths, and professionals. We will dramatically improve the safety and health of individuals playing contact sports with a product that exceeds all expectations and maintains or improves player performance.
It is important to emphasise that the idea is a patented functional solution and not simply a new design. The APS 21 has the flexibility to adapt to different sports segments.

THE SPORT SHOE OF THE FUTURE
The Ankle Protection System is a specific integrated construction format that gives protection and flexibility for speed to all players. The construction format system is created to provide greater flexibility and protection to the ankle region against impacts or friction on both sides of the foot when playing contact sports. The system prevents the problem of micro-fractures, direct hits, open cuts, lacerations, abrasions, bruises, and swelling around the ankle area.
Positioned at the Achilles tendon area, the shoe’s flexible membrane allows full movement of the foot, resulting in increased performance when players sprint, which is crucial for team success and the final score.
People around the world involved in playing sports like soccer, American Football, soccer, baseball and rugby will benefit from this technology.

What’s the aim of the APS21 campaign? Getting any project off the ground is difficult. We have done a tremendous amount of research & development to get the APS21 Panthera to this stage. The product needed to be manufactured with modern materials, technology and then tested. All funds have gone into the development up to now.
Producing the APS21 is now needed to obtain a final operational production. We are currently looking for funding to help with the first production run, a small budget for production. We have manufacturers lined up for all the parts in a single location, which includes injection moulds, the assembly process, stitching operations, and packaging. Our previous work with other manufacturers in Asia means we are confident of high quality standards and that the products meets you in time.
We have calculated that the production run should be completed by the end of December 2016, so the product goes into the clients hands in Feb-March 2017. Available to all pledgers worldwide, But things can happen before as well. As the numbers of our supporters increase, so the number of people we could help to have a safe and healthy life.

WE USE HIGH END TECHNOLOGY TO DEVELOP THE SHOE OF THE FUTURE
Our design process starts by analysing the problem and finding scenarios when injuries occur. We examine everything that happens on the fields, statistics, world data, medical reports, talk to doctors, players of all levels, etc. This first step takes a lot of time and organisation. We then sit at the design table and develop lots of ideas on both paper and digital media, which point to different options for resolving this specific problem. Then we build different models using 3D data, adding input from medical research, all issues related with human anatomy, as well as mechanics and material technology. This process is recycled until we are happy with the results and can guarantee the quality. The model is then manufactured, and goes through extensive testing on the materials, which are placed under dynamic forces. Prototypes are built and tested. The results and blueprints are included in the patenting process just to provide legal protection for this great idea.
Background and Project Facts
A) FACTS ON THE FIELD:
When playing contact sports, micro-fractures, abrasions, lacerations, bruises, and swelling around the ankle area are common, with the number of injuries on the rise on global scale.
The consequences are:
1) Players being out of action either permanently or whilst recovering.
2) Children being sidelined, which can lead to them stop playing sport due to their negative experience.
3) Clubs lose money when players are out of action due to long-term injuries. Sales drop when Star players are not on the field.
B) OBJECTIVES:
The system protect players against the different types of injuries suffered during contact sports.
Types of injuries suffered during contact sports:
- Ankle fractures.
- Ankle sprains. Eversion or inversion rotation of the foot or ankle.
-Misdiagnosed ankle sprains (micro-fractures).
- Ankle lacerations.
- Ankle bruises.
The ankle joint only moves in the vertical plane (dorsiflexion and plantar flexion).
- Inversion and eversion occurs at the subtalar or calcaneotalar joint.
This joint is stronger than the ankle joint and as a result, most inversion/eversion injuries occur at the ankle rather than at the calcaneotalar or subtalar joint.
That’s why the APS21 focuses on protecting this area.
C) CONDITIONS:
What forces causes these injuries?
1) Direct impacts or objects colliding against the ankle surface. (player shoes).
2) Friction or compression forces.
3) Player collisions.
4) Shoe studs, through jumping and landing on someone else's foot (striving for ball control).
5) Side or medial tackles.
6) Traction of the shoe over the field. Eversion or inversion rotation of the foot or ankle, which could be also stabilised by our new design.
Further injury considerations: when playing soccer, an overwhelming amount of force can be used when tackling players. Just one kick can break the tibia and fibula bones. Examples exist in contact sports.
BACKGROUND HISTORY:
In the early days of the 1930's, football boots weighed approx. 500 grams when dry, and twice as much when wet. When manufacturers were made aware of the boot only being in contact with the ball for about 10% of the game, they developed lighter boots. Lighter footwear meant players tired less and overall speed of play subsequently increased.
This made for a more enjoyable spectator sport. The soccer boot was streamlined with the ankle-hugging component lowered to below the malleoli (anklebones). This produced concerns about ankle injuries, which was left unsolved. The elimination of the boot, and therefore ankle protection, in the 1930s was a consequence of the lack of technology available at the time. The boots were too heavy when wet, each one weighing 800 grams or more. This wet factor during games led to ankle protection being sacrificed, and the new shorn version of the football shoe was born.

Now, new material technologies provide the basis for a more flexible and lighter shoe. An Ankle Protection System APS21, is essential to reduce the amount of injuries worldwide and It will lead to the prevention of long-term disabilities or chronic injuries in the ankle area when playing sports. Fewer children will drop out of sport. Player performance will improve, rather than decrease.
