KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN FOR FILM PRODUCTION OF RAY BRADBURY’S DANDELION WINE
Our names are Natasha Shliapnikoff and Rodion Nahapetov, we are filmmakers and producing partners living and working in Los Angeles. We had the great honor of calling Ray Bradbury a friend, a colleague and a second father to us for over ten years. Ray entrusted Rodion to write the screenplay adaptation of his most personal and semi-biographical novel “Dandelion Wine.”
The two worked closely together, and, after several drafts, Ray gave Rodion’s script his final approval and Rodion gave Ray his solemn promise to produce a film that would never compromise the integrity of his novel. This is a promise we must keep to the great Ray Bradbury, one of the most celebrated writers of our time, who perfected the art of storytelling and left this world so much richer with his contributions to literature.
Ray always felt that we should make “Dandelion Wine” as an independent film. He was always a very independent man and followed his own heart in all of his writings and in all his creative endeavors. He felt very strongly that no compromises should be made with the screenplay “Dandelion Wine,” which he loved very much.
This is why the Kickstarter campaign is so important because by receiving the support of Ray’s fans and friends, we will be able to make the movie the way Ray Bradbury would have wanted it. Prior to Ray’s passing in 2012, he whispered to us during one of our visits to his home: ”Don’t forget that “Dandelion Wine” is a project of love.” We hear Ray’s whisper loud and clear and ask all his fans and friends to hear his request too, and help us make this film, as it remains Ray Bradbury’s unfinished business.
Our goal is to create a collective effort through fans, friends and people who love Ray Bradbury and give the film “Dandelion Wine” the heartfelt recognition it deserves. This film will be his last legacy and a very important project for all of us who will be involved through our contributions in the making of this film.
Ray always considered his fans as family members. He always took time to talk to them, to encourage young writers, to always say a kind word to everyone who came to him. He was a man filled with love, compassion and strong creative force, which continues to live on through his books, family, friends and fans.
Rodion Nahapetov and Natasha Shliapnikoff www.rodionnahapetov.com have a proven track record internationally in both the film and television industry. For many years, they have worked together as a filmmaking team. Please take a look at the above website which will outline the body of work of both Natasha and Rodion. They also have a foundation – The Nahapetov Friendship Foundation, which has saved the lives of over 200 children worldwide suffering from congenital heart disease. Their film work, along with their humanitarian work solidifies them as a reliable and creative team.
Before Ray Bradbury passed away in June of 2012, he stated “There is no one else I would consider leaving “Dandelion Wine” to, except Natasha and Rodion, because I know, in my heart, that with them, this will be a work of love and will be produced exactly as I intended it.” In closing, we would like to assure all of Ray’s fans, friends and all the people who are going to contribute to our project, that together, we will create a film which will continue Ray Bradbury’s legacy and we hope, will go on to receive a nomination for an Academy Award, just like Ray wanted.
He dreamed and talked about this and we would like, more than anything, to fulfill his dream. Ray’s spirit and love will be guiding us in the making of his beloved “Dandelion Wine” film. As Ray always said “Love never dies.”
Many fabulous prizes await our Ray Bradbury fans! Signed posters, books and personal Ray Bradbury memorabilia.
Risks and challenges
We are looking for $350,000 in order to start preparations for the pre-production phase of the “Dandelion Wine” film. During this period we will put together a solid production team, start our location selections in Pittsburgh, PA, engage a professional casting company, prepare a script breakdown into individual scenes, create storyboards, locate the necessary props and costumes in order to recreate the time period of mythical Green Town, Illinois, circa 1928.
Then in pre-production we need to secure the required vintage 1920’s vehicles, steam locomotive, and vintage trolley, we will start the construction of “The Happiness Machine,” which will be an integral part of our movie, and needs to be a bigger-than-life original creation. Set construction for certain scenes will begin, a shooting script is prepared, a detailed schedule is produced, financial arrangements are put in place and at the end of pre-production, a start date for the beginning of principal photography is set.
Fans and Friends, please help us reach our first goal of $350,000 and stay with us to the finish line, so that we can make an Academy-Award winning film, just as Ray had dreamed of and talked about in his video.
We estimate that the entire budget for the film will be 10 million. We can try and do it for less, but much will depend on who will be cast as the leads. We want to make a film that will resonate throughout the world. The visual effects have to be state-of-the-art and our director of photography and the production designer have to be leading professionals.
