I am embarking on a community art project where your participation will land you in an exhibition, 'Armchair Travels with Bernadette' in the fall of 2012.
In spring of 2012 I will be traveling to Amsterdam, Berlin & Prague for work related research. The research I am doing for my day job is already funded - travel, accommodations, transfers - I have decided to take advantage of my research time there to expand it to my gallery practice. You may pledge to 'Armchair Travel with Bernadette' to anywhere in these three cities. I will need you to send me a digital file minimum 100dpi - 8 x 10 jpg headshot that I will print & bring with me and photograph in your destination of choice. Be sure that your head is fully filling the frame, all pictures will be printed in color for travel unless you personally specify that you would like to be in black & white (the travel image will be in color, however you may choose to be in b&w). After I return I will edit and print copies of our adventure together to be displayed in November at the Saranac Art Projects gallery, an artist run coop located in Spokane, WA. The exhibit will consist of the patron lists, thank you letters, travel shots of us together and an 'Armchair Installation' where gallery visitors can relax and read about your pledges, travel books, peruse my travel sketchbooks, and photograph themselves with a 'flat me' to be printed & posted daily during the run of the exhibition. Most of the travel photos will be renegade actions, like the profile picture of me here, shot in a local thrift store with props found on site and an arrangement made in the aisle for about 10 minutes (all props were promptly returned to their place of origin at the end of the shoot). Any funds recieved through Kickstarter will go towards, paper, inks, framing, installation expenses, press mailers, fees, & transportation to and from the gallery site of the work.
If I exceed my funding goals I will purchase a small digital recorder to use for collecting audio during our adventures for use in the Armchair Travelers' instalation.
As an artist I am usually defined as a sculptor, however more often than not I am finding my work is completed only when I have community involvement, sometimes that comes in the form of assisting me in collecting materials, other times in participatory actions. My involvement in the artist run coop gallery has allowed me to avoid the commercial side of creative acts as sales are not a requirement in maintaining my affiliation with the space. Won't you join me in creating a larger community to participate in this project?
Please pledge today to support community art projects and get a great reward! For the photo ops you will need to e-mail me a headshot by no later than April 10th 2012, contact me if you need help in doing so before the close of this funding drive.
Thank you so much for supporting the creative community!
