What if you could take your creative space and make it functional? What if you could take your wall and allow it to adapt to your project? What if you could easily show and remove your work, in just a few seconds, without the need to unscrew, erase, unpin, or align?
We wanted to design something for small businesses, home offices, and classrooms that looks nice, is adaptable, transitional and functional; for whoever is using the space, whatever phase of the project life cycle or lesson they are in. Tack-holes and screws damage walls. Shelves get messy. One-function whiteboards and cork boards take up space and render the wall useless when you aren't in need of them... The Tackoma is meant to channel our thoughts, guide our work, inspire and adapt to our projects, and truly assist us in our efforts to create things.

Level. Peel. Stick.
Installation is as simple as peeling off the tape liner and attaching it to the wall. To increase adhesion to wall, press down in the center of channel with the palm of your hand and slide outward both left and right a few times. (Make sure the cover is on channel when sliding).
For even more holding force and weight capacity, you can use the screws supplied with the kit. Just drive them through the middle of the channel into studs. When using screws, make sure tape is still used and do not over tighten screws as it will affect the performance of the paper holder.
We are offering Tackoma in three lengths: 18 inches, 36 inches, and 54 inches; with two available color options: white or black. Because we have already purchased tooling and verified the design with samples, we are confident that we can deliver products to backers by July, if not earlier. We have already factored in logistics which means we can offer free domestic shipping. As well as all kits will be 10% cheaper than our planned retail pricing! Furthermore, if we hit a stretch goal of $15,000 we will introduce a backer selected third color.
.:. We will send out a confirmation email with a color selection option to backers after the campaign.
Design, print, test, adjust, repeat... The beginning of 2017 was all about the prototype. The picture below is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Tackoma design iterations.
With the final design in hand, we are ready to get this product on to your walls. Not only have we selected a manufacturer, we have already purchased the extrusion tooling and received samples verifying the patent pending design.
The next major milestone is to complete the first production run (Channel, Shelf, Cover) in June; this is where you come in. We need backers like you to fund to first production run with this campaign.
Additionally, meeting our goal will also allow us to purchase bulk supplies such as:
- Injection Molded Hooks
- Rolls Of Double Sided Adhesive Tape
Prepare support equipment:
- Fabrication Center (Chop Saw, Run Out, Stop Blocks)
And ship out product:
- Packaging supplies (Boxes, Print Plate, Tape, Glue)
After the Kickstarter campaign ends, we are going to open source the accessory models for anyone to download and 3D print. Different sizes, shapes, and functions. Or design your own! Create custom tool holders, pen holders, or whatever you need to own and organize your space. All you need is the Tackoma channel and access to a 3D printer!
Check out www.tackoma.com/printables. Lots more to come on this!
Tackoma could not have been designed without the aid of 3D printing. Each design iteration was printed, tested, and revised to optimize function, adaptability, and user experience. And that's why we want to open it up all that have access to 3D printers.
Help us put Tackoma on walls by backing our campaign and sharing it with your friends!
Risks and challenges
We are really excited about Tackoma and are committed to delivering this product to you as quick as possible. But as with any project, there are many challenges to manufacturing and, ultimately, shipping a product.
Local manufacturing is a key component to our company. Not only does it support our local economy and bring pride to our hometown, it also allows us to troubleshoot issues quickly and economically. To be successful with products like this is about being hands on and making sure each step of the process is carefully scrutinized. Being partnered with a local manufacturer for the extrusion process means that we can be at the facility within 10 minutes to work through any problems.
Not only do we have a passion for product design, but we also have work experience in engineering and manufacturing. In particular, we both have designed and managed extruded and injection molded parts which gives us confidence that we can deliver a quality product.
