What do we know about coffee?
Our love for coffee started with a trip Vishal took to Tanzania, Africa where he spent time in Kilema, a small village tucked in the hills of Mount Kilimanjaro. For a total of six months over three trips Vishal worked with coffee farmers, doctors, and teachers. After the final trip he knew he wanted to continue visiting the village and use coffee to improve the lives of the people he had worked with. Our vision is to get back to Kilema as soon as possible to source coffee from the farmers and bring back here for you to enjoy.
To get things started, in February 2014, after getting our hands on a small roaster and a couple of trials at farmers markets we launched our product into retail stores. It's been a grueling eight months but since then, we've added over 60 coffee shops, restaurants, and offices throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. Now we're ready to deliver happiness in a whole new way through our Happiness Lab.
"Fair"? We can do better.
How great is Fair Trade?
It's just fair.
Poverty is an unfair problem that can't be solved with fairness. We need to do better. We can do better. That's why we'll be working directly with coffee farmers, in Tanzania for starters, to help them not only get fair wages for the coffee that they produce but also develop innovative solutions to problems that they actually face.
What do we know about coworking?
As members of The Grove, we know the power of collaboration and community. That's why we knew it would be a perfect fit when we found out that Slate wanted to put a coffee shop on the ground floor of the Grove. This unique collaboration allows us to deliver happiness to the New Haven community in a big way. Imagine the kind of good we can create with over 150 entrepreneurs, innovators, and change-makers all under one roof fueled by passion and great coffee. We're excited to see what we can create and we hope you are too!
This isn't something we can do by ourselves. We've had some amazing partners in helping us get to where we are today but we need your help to take it a step further and bring us closer to making our vision a reality.
Some of our Rewards
Risks and challenges
We have made sure to do our best to prevent any possible problems or risks with the fulfillment of our Kickstarter campaign.
However, as with any project that involves construction there could be delays that prevent us from opening in January. Rewards that involves drinks at The Happiness Lab or a dedicated desk could be delayed.
The highest risk reward is the coffee tree planted in Tanzania. A coffee tree takes five years to fully develop and bear fruit and a variety of factors could affect its growth along the way. We'll do our best to reduce the risk and make sure you get what we promised.
We promise to keep you updated on our progress and anything that could affect on your awards.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
