Disciples of the Storm Gameplay:
Disciples of the Storm (DOTS) is a unique, fast-paced, real-time-strategy game which will have some elements of role playing. DOTS game play takes place on the world of Sonus, shattered by a continuous war among the Tempests of Rain, Wind, and Thunder. The only refuge is on floating islands of the planet’s fractured crust, suspended in the winds of perpetual gales. As the High Priest of your tribe, you must align yourself with one of the Tempests to appease their lust for battle and gain their favor by sacrificing your enemies. Victory will grant you new technology and spells that will aid your tribe in ascending from the storm to the safe heavens above.
Wealth in land or currency, while useful, is ultimately not the key to victory. Like the chess piece King, the High Priest is the linchpin of empire. Lose the priest and you lose all.
A players High Priests is the center of a players faction and acts as the intermediary between his tribe and the Tempests, it is through the Priest that the player is able construct buildings and harness the powers of the Tempests through spells that can turn the tides of war.
Another key important element is through the use of bridges as the building block of battle, flanking and encircling enemy positions and expanding territory to gain strategic dominance.
Bridges become available with the construction of a temple and can be placed from a home island to link up with a resource or to an unclaimed island, another capability of feature of bridges is their ability to have construction built off the sides of them such as attack and defense units which can be placed from the ends of unconnected bridge sections.
DOTS weaponry is unique among RTS games. Each unit is stationary and has a specific range, damage, hit points, cost, and special ability. While some units inflict vicious damage and have superior overall capabilities, this does not make them impregnable. Cheaper, less powerful units placed expertly can dismantle larger, more powerful weapons systems.

Our team at Storm Isle Productions is backed by original "NetStorm" co-creator Jim Greer, along with NetStorm artist Beverly Garland and 3D modeler Morgan Ogburn. We are also joined by "Longshot Studios" a talented team of programmers to help with development. This collective of gaming industry leaders and bold development team envision Disciples of the Storm as an advanced tactics and strategy game played out in 3D space that evolves over time in both physical and dynamic complexity. A wide range of new building units, weaponry, bridge styles and spells, along with flexibility in play from individual, to group, to full-scale guild tournament warfare, promises to make Disciples of the Storm unlike any game previously created or currently on the market.

Released in 1997, "NetStorm: Islands at War" was a bridge-building, island-capturing, static-unit warfare game. "NetStorm" broke new ground with its unique combination of Tetris-style puzzle, and chess-like RTS game features. PC Gamer gave it a score of 91. C-Net called it “The #1 game of all time that no one ever bought.”
Launch time frame and promotion issues relegated "NetStorm" to the fringe of the evolving online gaming frontier, where a strong community of enthusiasts has kept it alive for more than 15 years.
Now a talented team of game developers and "NetStorm" enthusiasts, working in partnership with the original developers of "NetStorm", are seeking to create"Disciples of the Storm", a 3D, full-scale RTS reboot and tribute to the original "NetStorm" vision.
-No pay to win: DOTS will be free to download and free to play.
-Save and Load: No starting over from scratch.
-Kongregate Host: The game servers will be hosted on the Kongregate Games site to support a stable, long-term user base. Kongregate is the free games industry leader offering more than 86,000 free games.
-New IP, New World: As a top-to-bottom concept reboot, Disciples of the Storm will use a new IP for long-term stability and to avoid confusion with original "NetStorm". "Disciples of the Storm" takes place on an entirely new world (from units to spells to effects).
-Priest Customization Option: For die-hard fans, Priest Customization is the only monetized feature of Disciples of the Storm and allows players to uniquely customize their Priest's appearance, height, weight, and clothing.
-Solo Play and AI Generic Guilds: No guild membership will be required. Disciples of the Storm will feature online solo play and the option of generic AI guilds through which users can achieve ranking via bonuses and matches won, as well as enjoying expanded single player action through random map generation for skirmish and practice.
Kickstarter Campaign Rationale:
By Players, for Players: Our Kickstarter campaign begins with a conservative Main Game Goal of $50,000 to establish a solid technical foundation for the entire project that anticipates full-scale build out at $300,000. Our Kickstarter benchmark of $50,000 will create a functioning multiplayer online Disciples of the Storm game with RPG leveling system, wide tech tree, nearly 70 spells and 30 units, and will include GUI and tutorials.
Our build vision aims to first establish a technically solid DOTS experience for players. Subsequent stretch goals articulate, in phases, the full-scale vision of what we believe Disciples of the Storm can be—a totally engrossing, communal, tactics-and-strategy warfare game.
Full-scale creation on this level represents a significant amount of work and will include hundreds of new objects, animations, and spells. We have an extremely talented team who, with main goal funding, can dive in and deliver the first phase DOTS online game by 2015.

Q: What is Disciples of the Storm?
A: Disciples Of The Storm or "DOTS" is real-time-strategy game set in the fantasy world of "Sonus" in which a player has one priest that leads their faction and acts as the connection between the tribe and the Tempest gods of the world.
Q: What sets DOTS game play apart from other RTS games on the market?
A: DOTS takes a unique approach to the majority of RTS games on the market. Similar to other RTS games, players will be able to construct and place buildings, workshops, temples and shrines around the world, as well as defense, attack and transport units. What makes DOTS unique is that once placed, the attack units do not move (except in a few edge cases). This encourages players to carefully think through each unit placement in order to figure out the best strategy to win
Another element that sets DOTS apart is the bridge system. The bridge pieces are vital in creating a network of islands; they allow your priest to expand to new territories, set up more attack units and collect resources beyond the home island. Also, because of their T,L and assorted shapes, they create a puzzle element that makes using them just a fun thing to do.

Risks and challenges
Making a game is not a simple task and there are significant hurdles to overcome. At Storm Isle Productions we have been working on DOTS for 3 years developing the core element of an older game remake in the Unity 3D game engine as a nonpaid team of avid game lovers and developers. For us, making games and sharing them with you is what we enjoy doing. Throughout our development we always met our deadlines and have received a lot of positive feedback and support from numerous gaming websites and professional game developers in the industry who have cited our high level of dedication, product quality, and professionalism. In forming our initial team we pooled a number of very talented game developers skilled in coding along with model and content designers to help us shape the new look for Disciples of the Storm. We have the backing from the original makers of Netstorm: Islands at War, some of whom are now working with us on Disciples of the Storm as we refine and improve upon the original game mechanics and add a whole host of new features to the game. We are also fortunate to be teaming up with Longshot Studios who just last year released their debut game Longshot. They have a wealth of experience in coding and have developed their own apps and plugins for gaming software and are coding Disciples of the Storm using the Unity 3D Game engine to be playable on Windows, Linux and Mac.
Funding for the project will provide our team with a boosted capability to put more time into the project and to push through on development and content production, allowing us to bring on more content production artists to help speed development to release a truly polished game with Disciples of the Storm.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
