About this project
Update - 11 / 8 / 13
Very recently, we were presented with a new potential opportunity for Midnight Syndicate Live! We feel strongly that this is something that we need to explore. Unfortunately, this will take us past the November 10th deadline for this Kickstarter campaign. And so, in order to give us time to do our due diligence for our fans and backers, we have decided to cancel it.
At the end of the day, we feel that we owe it to all of our backers who have pledged their hard-earned money to help create a live Midnight Syndicate concert, as well as to the fans and supporters who have helped us promote this campaign, to thoroughly explore this possibility.
If it were to come to fruition, this new opportunity would result in a win-win situation for everyone who is involved in and has backed Midnight Syndicate Live! It would entail a live show in 2014.
If things don't work out, we will take what we have learned and launch a second campaign.
To everyone that has supported us and gotten behind this project so far we THANK YOU! The amazing response we've seen to this campaign just shows us once again that we have the GREATEST FANS IN THE WORLD!
--- Ed, Gavin, and the Midnight Syndicate Live! team
Greetings fans and friends of Midnight Syndicate! Thanks to your support over the past 16 years, we've been able to continue to create Halloween, horror, and fantasy "soundtracks for your imagination" albums. Now it's time for us to take that next step... something you've been asking from us for years. We're going to bring your nightmares to life with a one-of-a-kind Halloween horror multimedia Midnight Syndicate live concert experience! This is it! This will be the biggest, most important and exciting project in Midnight Syndicate history but we need your help to make it a reality!
Who is Midnight Syndicate ?
Midnight Syndicate is two composers who create "soundtracks to imaginary films." Our CDs are a blend orchestral instrumental music and sound effects. Since 1996, we've released 17 studio albums (including award-winning The 13th Hour, the official Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying soundtrack, and Monsters of Legend). We've also scored several horror films (most recently Axe Giant on SyFy) and even produced our own movie, The Dead Matter, a few years ago. Halloween is a big time of the year for us. You can hear our music used as background in stores, haunted houses, amusement parks (like Universal's Halloween Horror Nights), and television shows (including Monday Night Football), as well as your neighborhood haunt displays this time of year.
What is Midnight Syndicate Live! ?
Midnight Syndicate Live! is a unique horror-themed multimedia concert experience that blends live music, original films, music videos, and theatre. As it is for many of you, Halloween is 365 days a year here. We want to make Halloween history with an event that celebrates the holiday and the horror cinema at the core of what we do.
The visual element to this show is as important as the music. To pull this together we’ve teamed up with a talented group of veteran FX artists and filmmakers. In addition to the individuals listed below, we will have many opportunities for fans and other artists to be involved.
Robert Kurtzman is a special effects legend. In addition to being the co-founder KNB EFX (Walking Dead) and creating effects for some of Hollywood’s biggest films over the years, he also produced From Dusk Till Dawn and has directed films including the original Wishmaster and The Rage.
Director Producer Gary Jones' television credits include Xena and Hercules but he’s also known for his FX work on films like Army of Darkness and the monster movies he’s directed like Mosquito, Boogeyman 3, and Axe Giant.
Although many first met David "House" Greathouse as a contestant on Syfy’s Faceoff, he has been working in the haunted house and film industries—as well as designing masks and touring with the theatrical metal band Mushroomhead—for over 20 years.
After working on The Dead Matter, Beki Ingram became a contestant on the second season of SyFy’s Faceoff and has since worked on films like Children of the Corn and Jug Head.
Jason Carter rose to fame as the memorable Ranger Marcus Cole from Babylon 5. Some of his other credits include Angel, Charmed, The Dead Matter, and Midnight Syndicate’s Carnival Arcane album.
In addition to their incredible work as haunted house prop, makeup, and set designers, long-time Midnight Syndicate collaborators Jason Blaszczak and Screamline Studios have recently teamed up with Steve Kopelman on Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare.
Among the performers from across the country this show will allow us to feature include vocalist, Destini Beard whose collaborative work with Midnight Syndicate includes the Time Forgotten and The Dark Masquerade albums.
You! This show is for you, the fans of Midnight Syndicate, and we’ll be looking for your input on what you’d like to see and hear. Additionally, by contributing to this Kickstarter campaign you will forever be a part of this important part of Midnight Syndicate and Halloween history.
Why haven’t we done live concerts so far?
As an indie band on our own label, one of the main reasons is getting the resources together needed to produce that FIRST show. The cost is higher for us because of the style of music we perform and the visual elements needed to make it the kind of show you deserve. Additionally, having produced a smaller version of this multimedia concert many years ago, we know the kind of team we need to make this something really special. It’s only been through working in film (The Dead Matter, The Rage, Axe Giant) and in the haunted attraction industry over the years that we’ve been able to build a team of talented veteran professionals who, together, have significant experience in all facets of this show. With this cross-section of talent, we can create something extraordinary.
We have the best fans in the world and your support is what has allowed us to keep producing music for all these years. This is the next stage in Midnight Syndicate history as we adapt to an ever-changing music industry. This live concert is not only exciting, but also an important step for Midnight Syndicate going forward. By supporting this Kickstarter campaign you are not only helping to create an awesome Halloween horror multimedia concert experience but also helping Midnight Syndicate grow and continue to release more great music!
Most of the rewards we are offering are exclusive to the Kickstarter campaign. That’s so when you hold that special edition DVD in your hands or wear that shirt or hat, we want to remind you that you’re watching or wearing something YOU made possible.
What will the money be used for?
Close to half the money we raise on this Kickstarter campaign (after the cost of rewards and processing fees) will go towards the purchase of the equipment and additional personnel we need in order to reproduce Midnight Syndicate’s music in a live setting. The other half will go towards the production of the original films and stage elements that will play such a huge part in this show as well as the production of the DVD version of the show.
When will this show debut?
We plan to debut this show in Cleveland, Ohio in early November of 2014 with the DVD of the concert to follow shortly thereafter. Once we produce this first show, we have a plan in place that will allow the concert to sustain itself financially as we add new concert dates in other cities and continue to expand the show in years to come.
What if we exceed our goal?
Here’s where things get even more exciting. $40,000 is the bare minimum that we need to produce the first concert. That being said, additional funds would allow us to expand the scope of every aspect of the show. As we surpass our goal, we will unlock more stretch goals and rewards!
This show has been a long time coming. It is a huge step in Midnight Syndicate history and we’re asking for your support to make it a reality. To our fans, thank you again for your support over the years. To everyone reading this, thank you for taking the time to listen to us. We hope you’ll join us on this exciting journey...

Risks and challenges
There is a chance that our anticipated initial show date and completion of the DVD may vary from the dates we've set. That being said, having an experienced team who is used to working under deadlines gives us a great deal of confidence that we will premiere the show on schedule and release the DVD shortly thereafter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
