About

On his 111th birthday, the Clark Gable Foundation and I begin our pursuit in preserving the memory of this great American icon beyond his work in films where his commanding presence still inspires current filmmakers. With your help, I’ll create a life-size interactive bronze sculpture of Hollywood Legend, Ohio native and King of the Golden age of film, Clark Gable. The sculpture, designed with Clark seated on a park bench, will be placed in front of his birthplace home in Cadiz, Ohio, now the home of the Clark Gable Foundation and museum. www.clarkgablefoundation.com

Today, the Foundation is already a popular tourist destination with many fascinating items connected to the history of Clark Gable that extend from a match cup he once kept in his dressing room, to letters from President Eisenhower, and J. Edgar Hoover, to a Cadillac he once owned. The life-size bronze sculpture that I would like to create will not only pay tribute to the King, but create a focal point and destination for fans to visit in a way that brings them close to a life-size Clark Gable. This sculpture will be designed with a bench that gives visitors a place to sit next to Clark and have their picture taken. The bronze sculpture with patina is a long-lasting material that could last hundreds, even thousands of years.

As you can imagine artwork like this has many steps and takes a long time to create. With more than 20 years of sculpting experience, I can tell you the process to complete this work could take ideally from six months to a year. Consequently, the work costs a great deal of money.

As an experienced sculptor with The Rotblatt/Amrany Fine Art Studio www.rotblattamrany.com I have the skills and background to make it happen.
Our team of artists have created privately-funded pieces that are life-sized and larger, located all over the country. These include Michael Jordan, Carlton Fisk, Jim Lovell, Ernie Banks, Vince Lombardi, Saint Theresa, Dave Niehaus, Gordie Howe and Ray Kroc to name a very few. But now you have an opportunity to be a part of film history and add to the Clark Gable legacy.

The Clark Gable Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that operates almost entirely on donations and fundraisers. By making a donation to the Clark Gable Foundation, you will be eligible for some very unique and elegant rewards while your contribution will be tax deductible. Any contribution you make to this exciting piece of art will be greatly appreciated. Please note some of the rewards are limited, but any contribution you make to this exciting piece of art will be greatly appreciated.

WE WILL RECEIVE NO MONEY if we do not reach our goal of $80,000. Please remember that Kickstarter is an ALL or NOTHING proposition. If we do not make it to our goal of $80,000 by our deadline, this project does not receive a penny, and all of the contributions are refunded. So if you are considering a donation please do not delay.

It has long been a dream of mine to create a life-sized sculpture of Clark Gable. Now, together with The Clark Gable Foundation, we ask you to take part in commemorating the King of Hollywood with this accessible work of art that will give you an exclusive place in the ongoing history of Clark Gable.

Clark Gable History

Clark was born February 1, 1901 in Cadiz, Ohio

He was married five times. His third wife Carole Lombard was killed in a plane crash following a War Bond tour.  Carole Lombard was considered the first American civilian killed in the line of duty in WW II.

His first screen appearance was in a Clara Bow film, "The Plastic Age".

He won an Academy Award for his role in "It Happened One Night". This would be his only Oscar.

He was nominated for best actor Oscars in San Francisco, Mutiny on the Bounty, and Gone With The Wind.

His most famous role was Rhett Butler in Gone With The Wind. He starred opposite Vivien Leigh who played Scarlett Ohara.  It was here that he delivered the most famous line in film history, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

Clark served in World War Two.  He saw action as an Aerial gunner, and reached the rank of Captain.

Clark addressed the Republican National Convention in 1952, supporting General Dwight David Eisenhower.

Clark was asked to co-star in the film The Alamo. Actor/director John Wayne wanted Gable to play the role of Colonel Travis.  Clark wanted to be in the film but had to decline due to his commitment to John Huston, and Arthur Miller for The Misfits.

The Misfits was his last film. He co-starred with Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift, and Eli Wallach.  Clark died within a month after filming completed on the Misfits.  He was excitedly awaiting the birth of his only son, John Clark Gable, at the time of his death.

Clark died of a heart attack, November 16, 1960.

If you are among the “Windies” chances are you are familiar with this one. The “Windies” have always enjoyed past creations the artist has made like this one. Lou Cella will sculpt a bas-relief medallion/ornament, 3 to 4 inches in diameter. The image will feature Clark Gable on the bench. These will be cold-cast and given a pewter or bronze finish. All of them will be hand-painted, signed and numbered by Lou Cella. The edition number will be determined by the donations made here.
