Vibe featured, independent hip hop artist Madison|LST is recording his debut album and next music video. An afro on a mission.
My name is Madison|LST and I'm raising funds for my debut album and a music video for its single. I call it OBLIVION, the space where I'm lost in thought and find my words. Each of the songs on this album will be an inside look into who I am as a person and artist, and what I hope to contribute to the world. These tracks will be the sonic evidence of my OBLIVION.
Originally, the concept for my project was to create an EP of 5 of my favorite, more introspective tracks, but as I began to put the pieces together I felt the tracks were a little one sided. A lot of who I am as an artist was being neglected. So I added another track that I thought would give my audience (Y’ALL!) a fuller picture of my work. Then I added another track, and then another, and before long I realized that the project was evolving into a full album. At this point I decided that if this was to be my debut work, it had to be the best of me, the full spectrum. My plan now is to present you with a professionally finished album that fully expresses who I am as an artist. An album that tells the story of all our lives, the struggles and challenges we face, the thoughts and beliefs we share, and a story that celebrates life and pushes us forward, together. With your help my goal is to finish recording the remaining songs being considered for the album, choose the final twelve, and have those professionally mixed and mastered for the release. Once that’s finished, I’ll work with Gaucho film to shoot an amazing visual for the album’s single and have it edited in a post-production house. Their work on both my previous videos, Give Me The World and Who Knows, has helped create a wonderful partnership and creative chemistry between us, but up to this point each of these were funded entirely by myself, with help from close friends and family. At this stage, the scope of the project I’m trying to complete is much larger than ever before, and to finish this debut album and video to the best of my ability, I’ll need more help financially than I can provide on my own. This brought me to Kickstarter.
I want this project to be the best it can be and I’ve realized that as an independent artist I don’t work with a label (duh, Madison). I work directly with the people who hear and support my music; the people who help make my journey possible. I work with you. So for this landmark, I want to be an open book that we can all watch progress from moment to moment as the album evolves and grows into its final form: OBLIVION. All my backers will receive exclusive updates through videos, pictures, and notes about each stage of the music as it progresses. You’ll see myself and my producers working hard to capture the sound we imagine, me recording in the studio, planning and shooting the video with Gaucho Film, and other updates as they occur. Again, any donation at all is a huge help and will be deeply felt as this album nears completion. And spread the love! Sharing the project with friends is definitely one of the biggest contributions that anyone can make to help bring this project to life. So thank you, ahead of time, for coming on this journey with me, for believing, supporting, and pushing me to be the best I can be. Let’s venture into OBLIVION, and show the world what we found there.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The risks and challenges for OBLIVION are possible delays in the creative fulfillment of production and post production work on the album and/or the video. Music has tenets and clear structure but like all arts it is a subjective undertaking and creative conflicts, scheduling conflicts between collaborators, and unforeseen problems do occur from time to time. These issues naturally arise when working to have multiple creative visions match up and it takes compromise, patience and diligent efforts to bring projects like these to fruition. But this is not my first rodeo, I’ve worked with many different producers and audio engineers through conflicts like these and the people I work with are dedicated, talented individuals who are as eager as I am to make an impression on the music industry and the world. We’re a family, through thick and thin, and we know what it takes to get to the other side of the vision. Backers will be notified every step of the way about the progress being made and any unexpected issues that may affect the timing of our projected release dates. It’s all part of the journey, and I think seeing us work through the challenges that may lie on the road to OBLIVION will only make the completion of this album that much more fulfilling for all of us.
