About

The need for fashionable adaptive clothing brands are in demand now more than ever. Major name brands have yet to take notice and become more inclusive with their clothing. Few retailers such as Target, have tried to take on the task but a few pieces in a collection is not enough. We need more of a selection and we need simple designs that serves their purpose but yet make these children look and feel confident as well. My designer and I have found a easy to combine both purpose and fashion. Simple polo vests can be fitted to include weights, dresses can include spandex and light weights around the waist or belt. Stylish rompers for all ages with only a back opening for the children that attempt to get out of their clothing. Magnetic closing on pants for easy access to help children become more independent with dressing and toileting. There are so many small changes that can be made to simple clothing. We do not have to make these children look and feel different. They can wear the same things as the major brands with just a few changes for adaptibility. I see the need first hand for these things being an Autism mom myself and with my own children’s clothing boutique. I offer monthly birthday giveaways for children with developmental disabilities in which they choose items from my store plus custom birthday t-shirt’s and through talking with parents in my nonprofit as well I feel a new line would be greatly appreciated, supported, and accepted.

Risks and challenges

One of the good things with this project is that I already have a built in client base. My clothing boutique is trusted among parents and the fashionable items are a hit with children. On the other hand I also have a strong base with my Autism Nonprofit which also serves as a wide spread Autism Parent Community. The designs are set and we are keeping it simple and stylish so that there would be the lowest chance of any unforeseen challenges arising. The only way I can see any issues coming up would be if there is a problem with manufacturing or production or if the designs don’t come out as planned. The styles are simple and the clothing is effective so again I don’t see that as much of an issue.
