Some of you may have noticed how we were silent in the Comments sections today. So first we apologize you had to wait so long for this reply. It's not because we run out to buy Christmas gifts but because after we took a few hours of sleep, before jumping to answers, we had to drag our lead programmer back to his compiler so he can make quick tests of idea we had regarding difficulty levels in the game. And it took him forever to recompile the program, create few new panels in the game, change some stuff in localized texts in three different languages and test everything.

Quite a few (and not only on Kickstarter) expressed concerns regarding some features detailed in Update 2. Particularly how will difficulty level effect game play experience... to oversimplify your concern; will playing at Normal level make game less rich than at Hard or Legendary settings? A few of you responded how you would like all items and spells to be available in all difficulty levels.

Each difficulty level has different limits regarding max level cap, max skill levels, number of craftable items, number of items per itemholder, monster strength and so on. We thought about it and decided to test the following idea. Instead of changing existing difficulty levels and rules, we implemented fifth difficulty level - Custom.

Custom difficulty level allows you to configure various parameters before the game starts. This way you can configure game to run in easy mode but with all items enabled, or you can start the game in legendary mode but with lowered monster health, or any combination of 8 basic difficulty parameters you would like. Lead programmer had to throw quite a few special programming spells to the code to make it work without endangering the balance. 

Screenshots show two panels. The smaller panel on the right is the one we showed in Update 2 and the bigger panel on the left is displayed only if you select newly added unique feature; 5th Custom difficulty level which you can see at the bottom of the difficulty level list in the smaller panel.

      I like this a lot as well. I don't remember another rpg that has this many difficulty options.

      All that is mission now is hardcore mode where when you save you can only overwrite one save and when you die that save gets deleted :)

      Let me just say this at Aurofinity/Dreamatrix: VERY IMPRESSIVE. Thank you so much. I am extremely impressed with how you handled this request from us. You solved the problem in a practical way (say a big thank you to your programmer!) that makes everyone happy. This is perfect and takes nothing away from the game. The ability to tweak the games mechanics to your own style is perfect, thank you for listening and providing this awesome feedback. And happy holidays to you as well!

      I do have a suggestion. A minor one, but you seem receptive so I thought I would throw it out there.
      It seems odd to have normal as the first entry for a few and normal for the second entry for the others.
      Slightly better might be to name them what they are and remove the word normal. 100%, or +1 or what ever. There is already an icon next to the entries that shows if it is normal or easy.
      Which is why it's weird that 2 of the normal settings are actually easy settings. I hope you understand.

      Kefo, in complex game like LOD we've got to be very careful with new ideas, we know that. This idea could bring even more replayability. I think it was worth the effort. I appreciate your opinion.

      Amazing! Love the option to tweak your difficulty and details - this can definitely make for some interesting and competitive gameplay! Just like they have Hardcore races in certain games, there could easily be a race where the monsters are set at legendary, but all items, exp, etc are set to the lowest setting. Very very cool guys! Keep up the amazing work and have a happy holiday!

      Thanks for the update! Just remember this is your game and your vision. you are putting your time and money into it and while taking suggestions from your fans and backers is nice, dont let them sway you too far from your original design document. You can lose more fans that way or end up with a mess of a game from trying to appease everyone.
