Passionate about fitness, the concept for Flyfit emerged from our own needs to find a well-rounded and accurate fitness tracker that also looked great. During vigorous workouts we wanted a small device that we could almost forget we were wearing, and then not struggle to get it off when we needed to.
After trying and testing every similar product we could get our hands on, we spent some time developing our own band. The result: a simple yet stylish-looking, ultra-lightweight and comfortable band made from TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). The technology is extremely easy to use with just a few taps of the finger, and provides real-time data that we can actually utilize during our workouts and throughout the day.
The band is available in five colors: the basics (black and white) plus three fashion colors (cyan, fuchsia and bright yellow). The color options can be switched up to match your gear.
The LED panel has four symbols to represent each of the main tracking functions:
- Daily Activity: walking, running, cycling & stair types of fitness
- Sleep: number of hours and quality
- Swim: leg strokes

Below is a sneak peak at our interface design, which is still a work in progress. Some of the key features that we’re working on include a personalized home page with a daily activity summary, a GPS map to track distance travelled, goal setting and detailed stats reports. Our programmer and designers are working diligently to create the best user experience possible.

From Concept to Flyfit
2012 - The start of Flyfit
Working out has always been a passion for me, and for my family. One day back in 2012, my fitness-enthusiast wife commented (again) that she needed to find a wearable fitness device that could accurately track ALL her activities as well as monitor her progress. It especially bothered her when she was cycling – so I decided to take action.
I dove into researching the issue (to try to find her the right band, of course) and soon realized the problem: All the wristbands on the market right now are able to detect step movement by vibration or the swinging of the arms. However, when you’re riding a bike, your hands tend to hold the handlebars firmly so there isn't much movement or vibration to be detected in the wrists. This results in incorrect or insufficient data while cycling.
Taking up the challenge, I researched finding a spot on my body to generate the strongest motion signal. After hundreds of tests, I determined that the sweet spot is right on the ankle, and has the ability to send signals strong enough to cover most cardio activities and sleep.
The photos you see below are taken from our prototyping process. The final products for mass production will most likely be the same shape and appearance as the ones you see here.

This video demonstrates how we extracted data from Flyfit's motion sensor and transmitted it to an iPad via Bluetooth 4.0. As you can see the device accurately tracked the ankle movement when pedaling, producing the data we were after.

The product that you saw in the opening video is a prototype showing some of the working features and functions. We’re still in the process of testing other features, as well as the app design, antenna design and power consumption. With your support and funding, we can complete the development and launch our production.
PRODUCTION AND FULFILLMENT PLAN
The first three steps (industrial design, PCB layout and chip sourcing) have been completed. The next stage focuses on tooling, then onto production and beta testing.
We have also developed an athletic accessory, an ankle support sleeve, which securely holds the tracker in place as an alternate to the ankle band.
Made of sweat-resistant and breathable airprene, and secured with adjustable Velcro®, the sleeve provides maximum comfort for strenuous workouts. Sweat-absorbent cotton backed by cooling fiber material inside the sleeve provide air inflow and moisture outflow.
This accessory would be purchased separately from the Flyfit band, tracker and USB cable set.
$180,000 Open API for 3rd Development
Flyfit will have open API for third-party developers. We are hoping to offer them the freedom to have fun with our products and further extend its functionality. Simple and user-friendly interface for IOS or Android will be provided (Unity3D might even be included in the future). Developers will be able to use the data provided, such as real-time steps, cycling speed and etc to create some very cool apps!

In the hope of extending the possibility and application of FlyFit, we'll create our own games. As you all know, cardio training, such as running on treadmills or indoor cycling, can be really boring. And that, is exactly what we wish to change. Let us motivate you and help make it fun! Who You’re Backing
Risks and challenges
The first challenge we will face is mass production. As a company, our goal is to bring our customers the utmost satisfaction with everything we make. The combined experience of our team members offers an extensive background in product development and mass production. Yet, in reality, there is always uncertainty in large-scale production and scheduling of shipments. In order to mitigate these risks, we are partnering with some of the most experienced manufacturers and suppliers in the industry who are specialized in high-end consumer electronics.
Timing is the other challenge we will be facing. Before we can sell our product to the market, we need to obtain certifications such as FCC and CE to meet industry legal requirements. Usually, certification takes about four weeks and we would apply for it two months before our first shipment. We have high hopes that we will pass all certifications with flying colors. However, if the product fails due to a reason that is not accounted for, we will be looking at a one- to three-month delay.
Despite the risks and challenges ahead of us, we promise to continuously update you all on our progress and any other important news.
