Where We Are Now
We’ve spent almost two years working on our first full length album and we’re so excited to have it almost finished. Since we released our EP we put a lot of time and care into selecting, arranging and demoing the songs for this album. Our sessions at The Surgery Studios with guru award-winning engineer and all-around awesome guy Dr Lee Prebble, gave us recordings that had the exact vibe we wanted for the songs.
The opportunity to live in New York meant me leaving the day job behind and jumping head first into music. The time in NYC gave me a lot of new inspiration and influences, and the chance to develop the songs.
Right now we’re sitting on the recorded tracks for 15 songs, all that’s left to do is add some extra instruments and the vital step of mixing and mastering.
After such a long period working on this album, and my spell overseas, we can not wait to put the finishing touches on this collection of songs and share them with all of you that have supported us along the way.
Albums are defining and forever, and we are determined to not compromise on our vision for these songs. Adding extra instruments like piano, hammond organ and horns will let us have the songs sound as they do in our heads. And perhaps most importantly, having the right mixing engineer put the whole thing together is the crucial last step to a fully realised album.
As an independent band, our journey up until now has been made possible by you, the supporters, the gig-goers, the album-buyers and the music-sharers. With no record company backing us financially it's a pretty daunting thing to approach putting a record out. By preordering the album you’ll allow us to finish the project to its full potential, without compromising for cost.
We’ve come up with some sweet rewards that we’re looking forward to sending out, including beautiful 5x8 prints of photos we took of NYC during our time there (more info in posts to come), And the album itself as digital download or on CD.
We have this awesome collection of tunes so close to the finish line with only a couple final steps to go. We can’t finish it without your help.
So join the team and help us out.
Share The Load
The other way you can help hugely is to share the campaign to friends and family. We'd be so so grateful if you can email people, or share the campaign via Facebook, Twitter etc.
Already done and paid for:
Studio Time: $5,000
Musicians (piano/organ): $800
Extra studio time: $800
Musicians (organ/horns): $1400
Mixing & mastering $9000
We are going to cover the additional costs, so anything received beyond the goal will help a lot.
Risks and challenges
The next couple of months will have us recording the final touches on the songs, experimenting a little, and sending the album off for mixing.
As the recordings take form, some might scream for an added layer we didn't plan for: pipe organ, strings, a choir! We want to pursue these songs to their extremes and doing so might present some unexpected costs for extra talent.
We're ready to be flexible with mixing and recording costs, and have different options prepared for varying budgets, which won't compromise our artistic vision.
At the moment we're aiming to release the album in late April, and the exact date we release it will be confirmed later. We will stay in touch to keep all backers updated with any changes in schedule.
