I am taking on another recording project, this time for clarinet, jazz trio, and symphony orchestra. My vision includes using the music of Monster Clarinetists Benny Goodman and Sidney Bechet to cross over between jazz and classical styles in an innovative new way.
Often we hear classical music converted into the jazz style, but how often do we hear jazz converted into the classical style? This is an important aspect that I am trying to capture with this project and I am sure to succeed with the help of my team of amazing arrangers/composers. Ideally, portions of the music should sound like its own sound, not jazz or classical. It should defy categorization with deep respect to both.
This project is an EP because it will be about 1/2 of a full length album. An EP (or extended play) is a musical recording that contains more music than a single, but is too short to qualify as a full studio album. At a later date the second half of the CD will be recorded and full-length album will be released. In the meantime, I will digitally release a downloadable EP and market a live show to symphony organizations across the country.
The initial portion of this project will be recorded in October 2012 by a Grammy award-winning engineer inside of a beautiful concert hall at Florida State University thanks to the generous support from the FSU College of Music administration, faculty, and students.
Please be a part of something big and help me reach my goal. The funds will be used to hire studio musicians and create the new arrangements! Look at the wonderful rewards to the right and find one that is appealing to you.
