CHERIMOYA, an 8-piece instrumental funk band from Portland, Oregon, is looking for support in producing our second album. Cherimoya’s last album was recorded in our guitarist Chris’ living room. We like to think we did an OK job all things considered, but this time around we’re ready to go to a real studio to make sure this record sounds as sweet as can be.
We have 10 new songs that we’ve written together and are ready to be recorded and shared with funk-hungry ears all over the world. Since we’ve grown from 5 members to 8 members, these songs are more layered, more complex, and have a wide range of influnces, from Brazilian and Afro-cuban rhythms to heavy metal and hip hop.
We have a studio and an engineer on board, and our goal is to have the album ready to be dished up by July so we can peddle it at summer shows and festivals. Of course, making a quality studio recording for the ages isn’t cheap, which is why we need your help! We’re planning on 7 days in the studio, recording everything as live as possible for authenticity and time’s sake. Studio costs, along with paying the engineer, mixing, mastering, and printing the CD - we’re looking at a budget of at least $5,000.
We are so excited to be able to share our music with a wider audience, and with YOU! From our 8 funky, thumpin' hearts we sincerely appreciate any support you’re able to give.
Risks and challenges
As with many things in life, recording almost always takes longer than one expects. We’re aiming for 7 days but who knows, maybe everything will go wrong and it will take 10. If we exceed our Kickstarter goal, we’ll at least have some cushion for any unexpected obstacles.
We are still putting the finishing touches on a few of our songs - our writing is collaborative and sometimes it takes a while for 8 people to come to consensus. Getting your help with funding the project will give us a kick in the pants in terms of finalizing the songs and getting tight.
