The concept is simple: a quick-release belt with all the features our customers have been asking for, an over-engineered construction needed to last a lifetime, and no compromises.
EPOCH is the 11th Kickstarter edition to the Carbon Tactics line. It's the result of almost a year of prototyping, testing, and listening to feedback from our customers and beta testers.
How it Works
Thread the male end of the buckle through your belt loops and around your waist.
Adjust for fit, and click in. The extra webbing naturally tucks under for a streamlined comfortable fit, while the articulated buckle lays flat against your waist. The fit is SECURE, because utility is just as important as comfort.
Need to expediently drop your drawers? (We don't need to know why.) Just pull the latch, and you're good to go. Done with wearing a belt altogether? Grab the belt firmly, and for dramatic effect, rip it off as fast as you can! It's very satisfying.
The buckle stays adjusted to you, so there's no need to re-adjust when you put it back on later. And the EPOCH is built to last ages, so you can play with it as much as you like, and you don't have to feel bad about it ;)
Being CNC machined from aerospace aluminum, these buckles are stronger than anything you would normally need in a belt, and the webbing strength is in the thousands of pounds. To test that hypothesis, we harnessed the strongest force known to man, two huskies that know they're going to the dog park!
The main body of the EPOCH buckle is black anodized aircraft-grade aluminum, and you can customize the latch color. Choose from Black, Silver, and Dark Earth.
Robust Nylon Straps
For typical every day use, or for carrying a modest amount of gear on your belt, the single-layer strap provides the perfect amount of support.
For those days when you're carrying a lot of gear on your belt, do yourself a favor and grab a double-layer strap. Constructed by triple-stitching two layers of our nylon webbing together, these are REALLY RIGID. If you need to carry serious weight, get the double.
BioThane Hybrid Strap
BioThane provides a classic black leather look with superior strength, durability and ease of cleaning. With the BioThane Hybrid strap, we've combined BioThane with our robust nylon webbing (triple stitched together) to get that classic leather look, but with the performance and rigidity of a custom double-layer belt! Combined with our patent pending buckle, this option is unmatched in versatility.
Doing it Right: IN AMERICA!!!
EPOCH will be manufactured in Tucson, AZ by the creator's company, Sargent Research, LLC. This isn't the cheapest way to make a belt, but it gives us complete freedom and control.
CNC machined, assembled, and sewn under the same roof: Some people think you can't manufacture apparel in the USA anymore. We enjoy proving those people wrong :)
You can trust us to deliver, because we understand the manufacturing process, quality control, and other aspects that can be overlooked by a first-time Kickstarter creator. We aren't perfect by any means, but we always try to do right by people.
Since we first launched Carbon Tactics here on Kickstarter, we've been featured in a number of fine publications. Please check out the ones below. They are all awesome!
We asked for help testing the Epoch, and we received over 200 offers from our awesome customers! We sent prototypes to some extremely qualified people: law enforcement, military, athletes, business executives, and even professional product testers. Over the next month, we will continue to listen to their feedback, and use it to make the EPOCH belt absolutely perfect.
Help us support YOU (and your pants, and other gear)
CNC machining is expensive. Doing it in America and holding ourselves to the highest standard of quality isn't cheap either, but we want to make the EPOCH available to everyone. The only way to bring the cost down is to manufacture parts in large batches, and we hope your support on Kickstarter will enable us to ramp up for our first production run.
Risks and challenges
We are very confident in the design, and have tested it thoroughly, but small refinements may still be made based on feedback we receive from our beta testers.
We've tested the machining processes in-house on our Brother Speedio CNC mill, and all prototypes were sewn on our industrial sewing machines. Because we are doing all production in-house, we don't expect any big surprises. However, if we do hit any obstacles, we will adapt and overcome while keeping all backers updated along the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
