Alabaster: The Bible Beautiful - Complete

A 4 personas les gusta

Hello friends,

Alabaster is finished. After months of dreaming, designing, editing, and logistics - we couldn’t be more pleased with how the books turned out. First, we want to say thank you! You made this happen. This dream was realized because of your generosity and belief in this project, and we’re grateful for that.

Alabaster started out as a ‘what if?'. What if we created a space that explored the intersection of art, creativity and faith? We tossed it around with a few friends and they were into it. So we made couple of mock designs and took a couple photographs, just to see if there was anything there. Somewhere along the way we realized, “Oh, we’re actually doing this!" And then a friend created a kick-butt logo. And a couple photos turned into a ton of photos. And mock books were made. And a video was created. And a Kickstarter was launched. And sooner or later that ‘what if’ became what was actually happening. It was real. A set of books that we believe can help create a better conversation between art, beauty, and faith. We couldn’t be more excited.

To celebrate the completion of the books, we’ve created this video:

By now many of you have already received your copies of Alabaster. If you haven’t given us your shipping info yet or for any other questions please contact us at hello@alabasterco.com- we’re eager to get these books in your hands. We’re a small team, but we’re committed to being responsive and available to serve you.

We have other news- we’re on Amazon now! This is exciting for us as we seek to bring the conversation about the intersection of art, creativity and faith to more people. You’ve believed in Alabaster from the beginning, and you can help us on this new journey. We’d love to get reviews from all you amazing initial backers :) And if any of your friends are interested in getting a copy of their own, feel free to point them in that direction.

Alabaster: The Bible Beautiful is finished but Alabaster isn’t over. We are passionate about further exploring the intersection of art, creativity, and faith. For the rest of 2017 and the foreseeable future we want to pursue that passion by telling the stories of practicing artists and creators. If you’re interested in staying up to date on the next thing feel free to join our mailing list here.

Thank you again, friends. Alabaster would not have become a reality without you. Here’s to continuing the conversation.

Grace and peace,

Bryan Chung & Brian Chung

Hi Friends,

Here’s the latest on Alabaster and all you’ve helped us achieve since our last update.

The Books

First and foremost, here’s a sample of the four books received from our printer! The books have gone through multiple design iterations, with lighter and brighter cover images, refinements in our typography, and some personal paintings that hope to add to the conversation of art and faith.

Printing

The full print job of the books are being done as I write this. Very exciting! We're happy to announce they will be printed litho, which for all you printing nerds out there means it produces a slightly sharper print result than typical digital printing.

Shipping

Our days are now spent ordering boxes and systematizing shipping info to make sure Alabaster gets to you safe and sound. We’re slowly realizing that shipping is going to be its own challenge entirely (due to the scale of the project) but we’re excited for the test and we’re learning a lot through the process.

We can’t wait to get these books to you and hear what you think! As always, any ways in which you can help get the word out on the vision of Alabaster is greatly appreciated. We’re still taking pre-orders on our Indiegogo page as the project comes to fruition and we’re throwing out mini updates on Instagram and Facebook. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email us. Blessings!

Gratefully,
Bryan Chung & Brian Chung

Hello friends,

First off, happy new year!

Here’s another quick update on how Alabaster is turning out. Thanks for your patience on updates and we are excited to share with you how everything is going!

Our first draft of the books are complete. The images are done and our spread designs are finishing up as I write this. We’ve made some improvements to our design which we are excited about and believe add to the vision of Alabaster. Here’s a video showing some of the designs:

We’ll be spending the next two weeks going through a couple more design rounds and revising/editing our images to make sure everything is perfect before we send it off on our deadline with the printer. It's been a challenging and rewarding experience putting these books together and we can't wait to get these into your hands!

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us on Kickstarter message or at hello@alabasterco.com. Thank you for your continued support on this project. None of this would be possible without you and we are incredibly grateful.

More to come soon.

Warmly,

Bryan/Brian Chung

Alabaster Update

A 8 personas les gusta

Hello friends,

Here’s a quick update on all things Alabaster. We apologize for the delay; we know its been well over a month now since the campaign ended!

The past weeks have primarily been spent making images and organizing the logistics for the project. Here’s a little more detail on those things.

Images

It has been a humbling experience creating images for these bibles. On a personal level, we really do feel the text is coming alive in ways we never would have imagined as we continue to make images for each passage. We’ve been spending a lot of time studying the text over and over again to find connections, overarching themes and inspiration. We’re making sure that each image is well thought out and holds to our vision - to make images that do not just tell a literal message, but are thought provoking, challenging and create dialogue. Like any creative process, there are days when inspiration for the images come easily and days where we end up scratching our heads. But it’s been super fun!

Here’s a sneak peak at some of the images were making for Alabaster:

Adding to the Team

Along with the image making process we’re happy to announce we’ve added an amazing new addition to the team! We’ve brought along Josephine Law, a gifted graphics designer from ArtCenter College of Design (which is a big name school in the design world), to give us a hand with layouts and designs. We've also hired some professional photographers to help us out with the images.

Timeline

We are still confident that we will get the books done on time for our April delivery. Our timeline for the project is to have all images and design layouts finalized and sent to our print manufacturer early February so we have plenty of time (including a little bit of buffer) to get the books organized and ready to ship to you by April.

Other Fun Stuff

Folks have been asking if there is still a way to pre-order the books. Yes, there is! If you or a friend still wants to pre-order the books we’ve opened it up at: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/alabaster-the-bible-beautiful-photography#/

If you want more frequent and quick updates on the project be sure to follow us on our Instagram (@alabaster_co) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/alabasterco/) pages. We tend to post shorter updates on those platforms and will be reserving the updates on this Kickstarter page for longer updates.

-

That’s all for now! If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask us on Kickstarter messages or at hello@alabasterco.com. We will do our best to get back to you as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,

Bryan/Brian Chung
