MUSICIANS' DESK REFERENCE: Empowering artists to progress through the modern music industry.
The purpose of MUSICIANS' DESK REFERENCE is to create a set of guidelines that define the unknown variables musicians inevitably face when dealing with the music business. The working model of the book organizes and chronologically displays a set of instructions that will help both those who are just starting their musical careers to established and experienced musicians working on their own progression.
Through a collection of constructed documentation, including templates, instructional guides, examples and video tutorials, MUSICIANS' DESK REFERENCE offers a completely customizable experience for the user by highlighting several pertinent aspects of the music industry.
It is the belief of the author that through standardization of information and working models within the music business, musicians will have answers to the ever important questions of WHEN, WHY and most importantly HOW to progress within the modern music industry.
Brian has performed in touring bands for over 13 years, contributing to a large part of the business in each project. Over the past 2 years Brian has been helping independent musicians with The Counter Rhythm Group, offering assistance in areas such as record marketing, publicity and radio promotion to a broader demographic of artists than traditionally serviced.
Soon after The Counter Rhythm Group opened its doors, the company was flooded with requests. Without the workforce to help all in need, Brian developed a system that would offer guidelines and instructions to musicians on a larger scale while remaining customizable. This platform has become Musicians' Desk Reference.
WHY CROWD FUNDING?
Crowd funding is crucial to this project, mainly to keep the costs down. By eliminating investment returns and third party publishers we are able to pass the savings on directly to the user, ultimately selling the final product at a lower cost.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
By sharing the message through social media and word of mouth, we need to bring attention to MUSICIANS' DESK REFERENCE, as we believe it will empower musicians to progress through the modern music industry. Together, let's build a music community.
I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to watch our video and read our story. This project started as nothing more than wishful thinking, and to imagine the possibilities of what we can do with a platform like this fuels me to not stop until every musician has the same potential to succeed.
I encourage everyone to share the message with others, asking them to do the same. If you feel compelled, donations towards the project are welcomed from both musicians and non-musicians. We could not do this without you all and we are more grateful than we could ever possibly express.
Thank you all,
The Counter Rhythm Group + Musicians' Desk Reference
Risks and challenges
While there are many obstacles to overcome throughout the process of creating this eBook (declining sales in media, shorter attention spans of audiences and an unstable music industry in general), we as a team feel that this project will be successful at peaking interest. All of the turmoil the industry has faced calls for a new perspective; one that we feel is accomplished through standardization.
Keeping artists focused on working hard to build a strong foundation, making smaller more focused steps along their journey will allow for independent musicians to be more financially stable. This mentality will lead more musicians to tour consistently and organically build their own audiences without relying on third party assistance until it is necessary (along with the importance of why it is needed). Placing accountability on both the servicing agents of the industry (publicists, booking agents, record labels, etc.) and the artists that work with them allow for a more streamlined process of progression that recognizes both talented and hard working individuals, leveling the playing field for everyone.
In the event the eBook is not funded we will work to release the product through third party publishers. Unfortunately this will raise the production costs, making the retail price higher for the user.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
