What's Something Nice to Say?
Hi! We're Bryan and Claire, authors who've independently gone a little batty from locking ourselves in our houses to write. To channel that energy, we've created a podcast called Something Nice to Say where we take universally-hated concepts (i.e. waiting in line, snoring, Mel Gibson, etc.) and force ourselves to say three nice things about those topics.
Through our ridiculously twisted minds, we deconstruct what sucks about our topic of the day, and somehow find positive gems at the end of it all.
Did we mention that Bryan has no filter and Claire has no shame? With Bryan's background in improv comedy and Claire's humor writing experience, you never know what absurd, offensive, or dark (oh so dark) things will be covered in each episode. We never know either, but with the magic of long-distance, audio-only podcasting, you'll be able to enjoy or judge us from the safety of your treadmill, car, or toilet seat.
What Are We Funding?
30 Episodes of Something Nice to Say in 30 Days - We take the concepts you hate and turn them into hilarious podcast episodes that are somehow both optimistic and pessimistic at the same time.
Weekly Episodes Thereafter - While we’re tempted to have a burst of artistic hilarity and then run off to Mexico (Claire may do this anyway), we want to keep producing this ridiculous show every week in perpetuity. Whatever that means.
Where’s The Money Going?
Surprisingly, podcasts are neither free NOR created through witchcraft (we were disappointed too). They take time and effort to produce. Our goal is to raise $1,000. We’ve asked people who are better at math than we are to devise this number. Here’s what $1,000 will pay for:
- Website hosting costs
- Website design costs
- Podcast hosting costs
- Email list hosting costs
- Software to edit our episodes and make them comprehensible
- Advertising our show on Facebook and other comedy podcasts
- Taxes and administrative fees
- A small stipend for Claire and Bryan
WHAT?! We actually reached our goal? That's amazing! You're amazing. Here's what you'll get if we reach our big-time stretch goals!
$2,500 - Monthly Video Episodes
Claire is more attractive than Bryan. Learn this the hard way by watching Bryan attempt to cover up his scraggly facial hair with one video episode of the show each month.
$5,000 - Episodes Twice Per Week
After the first 30 days, you may have a hankering for more hate fighting (that’s fighting against hate, not for it). If we hit this stretch goal, we’ll whet your appetite with two episodes every week from month #2 through the rest of year #1.
$10,000 - Hate Marathon
Bryan and Claire will hang out in the same city long enough to do a massive LIVE stream during which we’ll say nice (and mean things) about as much as we can over 6 hours of streaming.
We really appreciate you, but we appreciate your money more. Here’s how you can spend your hard-earned cash on digital goodies from the Internet:
$5 - DIGITAL RECOGNITION: Your name on a Special Thanks page with “something nice” written about you.
$10 - FIRST IN LINE: Early access to our first block of episodes before they’re released to the greedy public as well as some DIGITAL RECOGNITION
$25 - BE HEARD: A LIVE thank you on the show, something nice about you, and some mild mockery of your name. Comes with all previous rewards.
$50 - TRUE DEDICATION: An episode dedicated to YOU and something you HATE, along with some psychoanalysis about your issues (plus all previous rewards).
$100 - NOW IT’S PERSONAL: A personalized audio or video message where we say something nice about anything you want. Use this perk as an answering machine message, a video review, or break up with your dearest of friends. Comes with all previous rewards.
Does this mean Bryan is giving up the Sell More Books Show to be a comedian?
Bryan: Nope! He’ll be doing both at the same time.
Does this mean Claire is giving up writing to try to make Bryan seem funny?
Claire: You wish. But making Bryan seem funny is only a part-time job. The book writing will continue as usual.
If this funds, what happens after the first year?
We’re not sure yet. We’d like to keep the show going indefinitely, but we promise you’ll be the first to know once we do.
What if this doesn’t fund?
After Bryan cries into his cat’s fur for about 3 weeks, Claire and Bryan hope to bring you a scaled back show. We may have to outsource parts of it overseas though. Also, we may have to replace Bryan with a Casio keyboard.
When will we get the rewards?
We’ll post our Special Thanks page and send out the Early episodes to folks before we launch in October. We’ll make sure to deliver the rest by the end of December.
Risks and challenges
Can we pull off 30 episodes in 30 days? Can we actually say three nice things about ANYTHING?
Hell yes we can.
If this project is funded, you’ll be able to get your hands (ears?) on the first episodes of Something Nice to Say in mid-October.
We will provide regular updates to backers to keep all contributors aware of how the project is progressing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
