À propos du projet
What's Life is Life?
Your friends are the worst. They’re walking liabilities and the reason you can never run for office. But to be honest, you are a big weirdo - and they have the memories, saved Snapchat screenshots, and Facebook photos from 2007 to prove it.
Life is Life is a card game that celebrates this mutually-assured destruction. The objective is to drink with friends, bask in the glory of “that time when” and discover what strangeness and debauchery your friends think you’re capable of. It’s why you went to Vegas that week before finals, but told mom you couldn’t reach her because the library’s reception sucked. It's why you and your better half picked that unlocked tractor instead of your comfy bed.
We’ve played Life is Life all over, from Seattle to New York to Puerto Rico to Germany – and had a blast with everyone we could find. We’ve heard new stories about our best friends, relived memories we had long forgotten, and turned strangers into friends. Life is Life!
Objective
- You want to get cards.
- Do whatever it takes to get cards.
How to play
- The judge draws a card and reads it aloud to the room.
- The group debates which player best fits the card. Players are encouraged to insist on physical challenges, story-telling, and seeing photos that were “accidentally" not deleted.
- The judge awards the card to one player and the judgeship rotates to the next player.
- Once a player reaches seven cards, she cheers “Life is Life” with the group. The winner of the round discards her cards and starts over. The other players keep their cards. If you have a beverage, this would be a good time to clink glasses.
So you might draw...
Round one might look like:
- Judge Daley draws Most likely to have the best sex grunt.
- Raj claims that he has the best sex grunt. Lauren insists that Jamie does. Sarah, who everyone forgot dated Raj freshman year, offers colorful testimony. Kai demands a grunt off.
- We all agree Raj has the best sex grunt. Daley gives Raj the card.
Round twenty might look like:
- Judge Matt draws Most likely to be a Ravenclaw.
- Matt looks contemplatively at Zach. Paige yells “Christina!”
- Zach insists that he has less to do with this card than elevators do with cranberry muffins.
- Nicole lists off the books she has seen at Christina’s house (The History of the Peloponnesian War, really?)
- Matt gives the card to Christina (sorry, Christina, you’re not a Gryffindor).
- Christina has seven cards. Everyone cheers: Life is life!
Special Cards
We’ve mixed in “special cards” to spice things up. Each special card dictates what to do with the next card drawn. Examples:
- Snap Judgment: The judge has to immediately give out the card based on gut reaction.
- All Aboard: The judge draws a card for each player. If there are five players (including the judge), the judge will draw 4 cards and lay them face up. The judge then has to award one card to each player.
The Origin Story
We’re Jason Kowalski and Shoshana Lich. Jason is still recovering from both a failed viral video attempt and Halloween costume modeling career. Shoshana is a self-proclaimed sommelier (read: "drinker") of wines under $10. We think about our game constantly and are excited to share Life is Life with you.
So how did Life is Life come to be? Well, we live in Seattle, where bars close at 9:00PM, and everyone is in a relationship, so no one goes out (we’re not bitter; we know we are desirable!). Our friends are also weird, so we play a lot of strange improv games. These things – in addition to years of making fun of our friends, hours of banter at college parties, plus the high school yearbook process – somehow culminated in Life is Life.
Help us make Life is Life
Life is Life: the game of absurd judgments comes with 500 Most likely to cards and 50 special cards. Life is Life is for ages 17+. We will use your pledges to manufacture this game, and get it into your hands as soon as possible. We get it if you can’t pledge: maybe you’re the friend who’s Most likely to not pledge money to a brilliant Kickstarter campaign. Sharing our Kickstarter with your friends and non-friends is awesome, too! We’re confident you’ll love the game.
Risques et défis
Cardboard boxes and cards are not as complex to manufacturer as other things, but we are mindful of possible delays. We've done most of our preparation before the launch of our campaign - we've already whittled down our card pool from thousands of cards to our near final deck. We’ve playtested Life is Life many times.
We have a manufacturer lined up and have partnered with a fulfillment company in case you wonderful people pledge a lot and we get sick of spending our days taping up boxes and sending our card game all over. We’ve set a conservative release schedule to make sure we get your rewards to you as anticipated, and hope to ship early. We offer simple game-based rewards. Thank you for your support!
