Blu is one of the world's first flexible display wearable smart phones. Blu is a futuristically designed combination of a truly powerful smart phone with the flexibility and convenience of a watch.
Our design for a wearable smart phone focused on hardware design. In today's technology we foundered the idea of Blu based on the lack of change and innovation towards mobile technology.
Adapting to the growing smartwatch industry, we have incorporated a smart phone with a smartwatch. To further improve this concept we have implemented 'Flexible Organic Light Emitting Display (OLED)' technology, making our device the first to be fully flexible.
This fully flexible design has enabled us to apply an 'overlapping clasp' allowing the device to fit users of '5.5 inch to 8.5 inch' in circumference wrist size.
Our second design focus focuses on the incorporation of the user with the device. To become an extension of the human body and expression of the user. We have implemented new features to allow the user to truly express themselves with a variety of customizable features. The futuristic design of Blu consisting a 'Light Bar' on each side, allows the user to change the colour to their preference.
The 5 inch by 2 inch 'Full Wrist Display' allows the user to embrace the wrist in unique High Definition graphics flexed around the entire visible surface of the wrist. When not using the phone, graphical splash screens will illuminate the wrist presenting an eye catching, fun, true graphical interface of animations and custom or preset graphics.
With surface mount technology, we have devised a design to embrace the whole wrist in 360 degrees of sound without the use of multiple speakers. This surface mounted technology uses the shell/case to vibrate off, creating audible sound emitted from all around the wrist.
Light bar notifications
The light bar is used to alert the user of the various notification types. The light bar is also adaptable to be incorporated into application functions for games, social media, apps as well as the standard mobile phone notifications such as:

To gain waterproofing, we minimalised the amount of entry points to circuitry exposure. This also gave our design more structural integrity.
GO UI or 'Gesture Orientation User Interface'; is one of Blu's latest innovations. Using the accelerometer; selected pages, notifications, boxes etc. will always be within the users eyesight and seemingly move with the users wrist, keeping the box in optimum eye sight level.
To implement waterproofing, we had to minimise the amounts of access points/holes to circuitry, therefore leaving us with the challenge of headphones, battery recharging and file transfer. We have made Blu completely wireless. We in-vision wireless technology to be a major part of consumer technology in the near future. Blu only supports wireless headphones via Bluetooth. Each Blu device will come fully equipped with a wireless dock for recharging and file transfer via WPT (Wireless Power Transmission) and NFC (Near Field Communication) adaptable via USB to PC or power outlet.
Flexible OLED Display
F-OLED is the leading edge in future technology. Consisting of no solid backlight and sandwiched between flexible conductive film known as TFT (Thin Film Transistor), the organic compound (emitting light) is able to be be formulated into a RGB dot matrix 'pixels' for a display and the flexible film allows it to become "roll-able".
OLED IS THE BEST
To further promote flexibility, Blu consists of a flexible thin film battery, capacity of 2400 mAh. Due to the large size of the Blu device (double the size of standard phone) it has become a goal to increase the capacity of the battery by double (4800 mAh). Our plan is to either simply place two 2400 mAh batteries in series or develop a single cell of 4800 mAh.
Corning Gorilla Glass
Corning Incorporated, suppliers of some of the highest grade primary layer protection for mobile devices introduced to us their latest flexible 'Willow' Glass by Corning. Capable to accommodate bending attributes protecting the display from scratches and wear.
Operating System (Software)
We are currently working on a licensing deal with Google in endeavors to use the Android operating system, however we believe by presenting a fully functioning prototype we can create a solid relationship with Google and further enhance the Android experience specifically to smartwatch Technology.
In the booming smart phone industry Qualcomm's integrated technology range known as "Snapdragon" has been very successful in providing the most powerful chipsets. So at Blu we have asked for their help and will be licensing their technology. The current designs consist of the most powerful Snapdragon 805. With super quick processing speeds of 2.7GHZ (p/core) Quad Core CPU making your daily routines lag free and greater multitasking experience. HD graphics from the Adreno 420 GPU and the list goes on!

Unfortunately Blu will not support CDMA (Verizon, Sprint) as we require verification from these companies to employ under their services and is not a promise we can make at this time.
**Technical aspects will change and adjust accordingly to the market and development of the latest integrated technology in smartphones, when or if the Snapdragon 805 chipset or current version of Android become obsolete.

Light Bar Buttons (Light turned off)
Organic Technology has arrived Did you know that Blu is Green?, Components of the Blu wearable smart phone are made of organic matter. Environmental Sustainability and waste management is important to us, so we only are using safe materials.
Our Flexible "Organic" Light Emitting Diode (F-OLED) Display is made of an organic electroluminescent compound act as the illuminant source and we use very high grade recycled polyethylene plastics as the Thin Film Transistors and laminate.
The Flex-Ion Battery in Blu also contains no toxic fluids, only organic solid compounds meaning its degradable and environmentally friendly.

So far we have proven concepts with prototypes of circuitry consisting of a flexible display. But we need your help to improve the process and add the final pieces.
Plan For Prototype 2
We need your help to improve:
-Flexibility of the display. Currently our prototype consists of a Silicon (glass like) flexible display, upon testing, the display shattered during a bend test. Our display manufacturer has promised, with further R&D that we can change the display to a PEN (Polyester) plastic display with an elasticity modulus of Gpa 5 (Glass being Gpa of 70).
With a PEN substrate display, its true flexibility and design properties being an organic series technology, the display will be nearly in-destructible. The display can not be cracked (Unlike an LCD) and is able to withstand heavy amounts of force, such as being struck by a hammer, dropped from high points without any operational damage causing malfunction to the display. The display can even be cut by scissors and still operate (given that there is still a point of connection not completely severed).
-Change from a wafer printed circuit board to a flexible film PCB.
-Further develop materials for the casing/shell of the phone to improve flexibility.
-Change from an external power source to a battery cell power source.
-Adding our innovated technology and to be finalised, combined into the manufacturing process and we will have our final prototype as depicted in the pictures.
The product verification test will introduce the new changes of the
device as previously stated to the state of our current prototype.
The development verification test will incorporate these changes into the final manufacturing process.
This campaign is purely for the Research and Development process only, once complete we will present you with the opportunity to purchase your own Blu Wearable Smart Phone.
Working with our manufacturers, developers and suppliers it has been a long and tiring task to obtain Engineering Validation Testing (EVT) on our designs. We have had each component verified and now they are just waiting to proceed with R&D then manufacturing.
Another goal is to make our second prototype is portability. Our current prototype is restricted to a power outlet. Our main goal of the second prototype is to put the circuitry in a case and change from external power source to an internal power source. (Power outlet to Battery cell)

Wireless Charging Dock
Our initial designs for a wireless dock have been halted, since the filing of Apple's patent we have had to redesign our charging dock for the device and limit the features previously available to be patent compliant.

Risks and challenges
Once we commence manufacturing, it will become hard to give backers refunds if requested. This will become a risk to the backer. We will take responsibility but would like to employ the risks involved in backing.
Funding is one of our biggest challenges, we have been working with major manufacturers to implement solid plans to achieve our goals. Our engineers and manufacturers and now just waiting to get started.
F-OLED encapsulation, F-OLED is very volatile to exposure to oxygen and can deteriorate. Encapsulation is a process to exclude oxygen exposure. This is a challenge all companies including the major distributors of electronics.
