Are hot springs rainbows, curled up to nap? Or are they pools of water, heated deep within the earth? Yellowstone is an amazing and mysterious place. Emmaline has some imaginative ideas about the origins of the park’s wonders and her scientist father has some pretty wild theories of his own. Follow their magical adventure in America’s first national park. Written and illustrated by an award-winning elementary art teacher and her own geologist father, this book is a playful lesson in earth science.
Imagination Vacation Yellowstone is a labor of love. I've been exploring Yellowstone since childhood, worked in the park for a summer and even married my husband there. My own geologist father contributed to the writing of this book. Teaching elementary art in a high-poverty area for the past seven years, I've come to realize just how neglected science is. In a world of high stakes standardized testing, science is usually on the back burner. Imagination Vacation Yellowstone helps to bring earth science to inquisitive young minds.
I've already written, illustrated and laid out Imagination Vacation Yellowstone. Now all that's left is the printing. $8,000 (plus funds I've already saved) will pay for a press run of 10,000 books.
Risks and challenges
My biggest challenge (besides funding) is marketing this book. The good news is, I've already secured my toughest customer. Yellowstone's premier educational and conservation group has already purchased 100 copies of Imagination Vacation Yellowstone. Those copies were printed from a pricey on-demand printer and were sold at a slight loss just to get my foot in the door this summer. Funding this project will allow me to keep selling copies to this group as well as begin selling copies to other vendors in and around the park and across the country.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
