Create a series of Fly's Eye 3-D images viewable without glasses
SnakeMonkey Studio's Kickstarter goal is to raise money in order to complete a series of large format three-dimensional portraits and animations using our newly developed Fly’s Eye 3-D technique. This method allows the viewer to see depth in the images without 3-D glasses. The dimensional photographs produced using the Fly's Eye 3-D process create a new form of visual expression. These portraits and animations incorporate elements of spatial depth, motion, dimension, and interactivity between viewer and art.
We have been fabricating the special Fly’s Eye lens screen from optical grade polyurethane with processes we have developed over the last five years. Each new portrait we create allows us to perfect our technique and refine our skills. In order to complete our series, we need your support.
We need to buy the materials to make the lens screens, light boxes, and frames. The Fly’s Eye pictures are back lit and the illumination panels are pricey. Our frames require precision machining in order to maintain even pressure on the lens screen. Custom lighting grids have been fabricated to take the pictures but we need to make a few more. We also need to install a ventilating system and build a temperature-controlled incubator for our remote screen-making facility.
For three decades, SnakeMonkey 3-D Studio has been the launchpad for incredible collaborative projects that M. Henry Jones has created in conjunction with dozens of fellow East Village musicians, artists, and photographers. Years of animation work led to the creation of our unique viewer interactive animated Fly’s Eye 3-D images.
We recently moved our studio from Avenue A to our new location on 10th Street between C & D on the Lower East Side. We are so grateful to be able to stay in our neighborhood. Rent increases are not news, but each artist that gets priced out of the neighborhood is a loss for the entire community. Please help us keep artists and their studios on the Lower East Side. These collaborative spaces are important to us all. We hope you will pledge any amount you can to help us keep our Fly's Eye 3-D projects alive.
Now we are ready to have Kickstarter help us bring this work out of the lab and into the world!
