Based on the world's most popular RPG, Yarr! is a class/level d20 game rooted in the OSR. This rules-light game can be learned by kids and enjoyed by seasoned players alike. More details below.

The core book is a complete RPG in one volume. This hardcover printing of only 100 copies will be an omnibus of the core book, all the supplements (including the Adventure Module "The Baron's Gold" and the expansion "Avast, Thar Be Ninjas!) With additional all new material! 

Hey, is this game any good? Yes! But don't take my word for it, read the reviews.

Yarr! is meant to be accessible and fast and more narrative than crunchy. I know people will houserule what they want to, and I actually encourage it in the intro! 

Yarr’s game mechanics are based on Swords & Wizardry but translated into to five pirate classes. There are no ability scores (of course that would be very easy to put back) and rolls to achieve actions are basically all saving throws except combat and class skills. Class skills are really old school: a chance on 1d6 (for example, hide in shadows 1-3 on 1d6). PCs are limited to a maximum level of 5, but there are other ways to advance after 5th level. 

One thing that's a little unique is the ship to ship combat which I like to think is pretty clever; realistic enough but not so complex that it takes an hour to do one broadside. There are optional rules to add more crunch for skills (these rules borrow the Prime concept from C&C, sort of) and some extra optional crunch for ship combat.

We have reached 50 backers, so once the book is fully funded, I will be adding new spells, captain feats, and extraordinary booty! Also, five hearty seadogs have taken up the challenge and backed at the Swashbuckler level, so there will new goodies from the community as well!  W00t!

I'm feeling inspired by the Make100 initiative to revisit and improve Yarr! THE Rules Light Pirate RPG in a special collector's edition. This hardcover printing will be about 6x9 inches and around 96 pages, collecting and improving all existing Yarr! products to date, possibly with input from me fellow Sea dogs!

Risks and challenges

This is my first project, but the text is already complete (until people pledge for the Swashbuckler reward). Being only a print book and a download both fulfilled by One Book Shelf (RPGNow) I don't foresee any fulfillment issues. Real life always gets in the way, so I've budgeted lots of time, but I expect to have the books in your hands well before Talk Like a Pirate Day.
