About this project
A Cool Dark Place is a short film written by and starring Stephanie Domini. The screenplay is inspired by the Golden Age of Hollywood when the brazen femme fatale dominated the silver screen.
The talent behind this project includes the award winning team of Philipp Wolter (director), Michelle Glick (producer) and Eun-ah Lee (cinematographer) who together have brought several short films to life that have been officially Oscar-considered, such as The Bridge, which won awards on both the national and international level, and The Sea Is All I Know, starring 2011 Oscar winner Melissa Leo and Peter Gerety (The Wire).
Co-starring in A Cool Dark Place is the talented Martin Harvey currently on Broadway’s Come Fly Away. Martin is also cast in the upcoming rendition of A Chorus Line.
The film will be beautifully staged at New York’s period supper club The Red Lotus Room, location of the Coen Brothers most recent film, on a feature worthy RED Scarlet camera giving the short the same production quality of a major picture.
From wardrobe to the director, the talents of this crew far exceeds the scope of this short film and our team members are working hard on this project for the love of bringing this story to fruition.

Technical notes: The film will be shot on the RED Camera and will be shot in NYC. We will use a tremendous amount of prop lights to give the film a very unique and beautiful look. The set design will be elaborate with many prop items specific to this era - which will also add to the overall look of the film. Set and wardrobe design will be integrated into the cinematography and the set designer, DP and even the composer will all work very close together to combine all the elements into one complete and enticing experience.
Creator's statement: A Cool Dark Place is my passion project. I have a deep love of the 1920's-40's. I have a special connection to this time - the films, music, literature and ground breaking art deco that defined this era in New York, Hollywood, Paris and beyond. I have an appreciation of the femme fatale of the Golden Age of Hollywood and this film is my hommage to these women. Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Heddy Lamar, Rita Hayworth, and Ava Gardner are just a few of the incredible sirens that paved the way to the vixen and the vamp as we know them today. My character - Vivienne St. Germain - embodies the revival of this mysterious seductress that I feel has disappeared from mainstream Hollywood. An alluring woman who reveals nothing - simultaneously dangerous, smart and classy. And this is my own personal effort to bring these strong, alluring women back to the silver screen.
I also love a good story - complex and dark relationships that drive people to extremes to attain what they desire and keep what they have when backed into a corner.
I have been doing research for years and assembling a cast and crew that will help me tell this story in an authentic and beautiful way. My producer, Michelle Glick, and director Philipp Wolter have won awards at the national and international level and have collaborated together on Oscar considered films. They are as committed as I am in making A Cool Dark Place not only a very entertaining, visually stunning film, but a start to a successful series.
I hope you'll join our team by making a donation - and thanks so much for your support.
