The Young Musicians of Minnesota (YMM) is a student-led and operated organization, consisting middle school through college graduate music students from across the state who have bound together to preserve and promote classical music throughout the state. YMM is entirely student-led, with students taking on roles such as conductor, orchestra manager, logistics advisor, concert event manager, and as performing musicians. YMM serves as a gateway to the professional music world, believing in offering students opportunities to challenge themselves, grow in their musical leadership and technical abilities, develop a greater appreciation for classical music, and work alongside professionals, all for NO COST. YMM members have held a presence in the community through filming our own YouTube video, participating in rallies, performing at the Minnesota State Fair, Orchestrate Excellence forums, our own youth orchestra concerts, chamber performances in the Orchestra Hall lobby, and as well as at We Day Minnesota 2013 (which is an educational event and movement of our time—a movement of young people leading local and global change).
This summer, YMM has launched its 2014 Summer Music Festival, free to advanced music students looking for a summer performance opportunity. The group of 72 students rehearses for 4 hours every Sunday in preparation for our Summer Music Festival Grand Finale concert on Friday, August 1st at the University of Minnesota’s Ted Mann Concert Hall. Abiding by our “no cost” mission, YMM charges no entrance fee to participate in our summer festival and will charge no admission fee to our concert. That is why we need YOUR help! YMM operates on a small budget that covers our basic operation needs. With YMM’s summer orchestra growing from last summer’s 46 musicians to today’s 72, and a larger intended audience for this performance, YMM is unable to use our past venues that originally were adequate for our orchestra.
"Why Ted Mann Hall?" -- YMM is an ever-developing and growing organization, and since last summer our orchestra has gained almost 30 more musicians. Previously using the MacPhail Center For Music's Antonello Hall and the Breck School's theatre, YMM's orchestra no longer fits in these venues, and the expected audience count will be reasonably larger than what both venues seat. YMM also needs access to percussion equipment, which the University of Minnesota can provide for Ted Mann.
We’re calling upon the community to help us cover our rental costs for Ted Mann Concert Hall. Help bring the Young Musicians of Minnesota’s summer music festival participants to Ted Mann Hall to share an unforgettable night of music with you. We hope to see YOU at our concert this August as we perform music by Wagner, Glazunov, and Tchaikovsky with guest musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra. Help YMM keep the music alive by donating today!

Risks and challenges
Being that YMM is a student-led organization, a lot of challenges can come with coordinating concerts, renting venues, and managing finances. YMM has appointed its conductor to reserving venues, and all the financing is in the hands of responsible adults.
Music students in the orchestra have filled out and signed a registration form and contract that ensures their dedication, attendance, and hard work throughout the festival. The contract and registration allows YMM to stay organized, create an email list, and feel confident that all of their members will practice and come prepared to rehearsals.
