The System: A Comic About Things And Stuff
Hi! I'm Rosscott Nover, a graphic designer, professor of graphic design, Super Art Fight MC, internet nerd, and webcomic artist.
Five years ago I began the webcomic The System: Comics Will Be Posted Until Morale Improves as a release valve to the insanity in my brain. Since then I have made over 650 comics and morale has slightly improved! Now it is time to take the first chunk of that and make it into a book and I need your help.
Here's some of the comics:
What Makes This Book Special?
In addition to collecting the first 200 comics from the website's archive, I knew I wanted to come up with ways to set it apart from other compilations of comics. Enter my mom, known affectionately to readers of the site as "Rossmom" (who is the quintessential Jewish mother). Since I first told her about the comic, she has commented on every single post on the site and is an active participant in the comment forums. Why put in my own commentary when I can put in hers? As such, the book has some interludes about the history of the comic, but also features "Mom-mentary" throughout the book.
I am turning to Kickstarter because I don't want to just make a book of comics. I want to make an amazing book and I need your help to do it. I have contacted a printer called Keness which I worked with on the Super Art Fight Kickstarter, so I know it will be a book you'll be proud to have. Plus I'm a designer, so you know it will be all laid out nicely with Helvetica and stuff.
Oh, and the forward? Written by The Internet's own Kris "Straub" Straub!
Jimmy The Murderdog
Jimmy The Murderdog is currently just a prototype made out of acrylic, approximately 4" long by 3.5" tall and stands up. Exact material and size TBD.
Thanks to the amazing reception from all of you, we're adding in STRETCH GOALS as we continue to raise money for the project. In addition to just printing more books, we're working on some awesome bonuses that we will be unlocking as we go.
Risks and challenges
Every project of this size has its risks. Luckily the comics are done, and the book is laid out. I already have an approximate quote from the printer, so most of the risks are out of the way. However, this is the biggest comic-undertaking I've done to date, which has me nervous and excited!
If delays do arise (which I don't foresee happening) I will keep our backers abreast of the situation with any information and updates we have!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
