Gordon Atkinson is a minister who has fallen away from everything he once thought was true. Desperate and lost, he stumbles into a seedy bar where a mysterious woman holds court before a drunken congregation of three.
An appraiser in a back room also buys and sells worldviews on the black market while having what can only be described as philosophical therapy sessions with her clients. The conversation they have is not like anything you've heard before.
They seek the mysterious Tertium Quid, a third way that is said to open itself to our awareness when there seems to be no answers to our questions.
The Short Film
Tertium Quid is a short filmed based on a piece of surreal fiction written by popular blogger and author, Gordon Atkinson. The story "True Believers" was popular and eventually published by a major magazine. We think it would make a fantastic short film, dealing with spiritual and psychological forces that form the psyche of modern humanity.
We've secured actors, producers, a location, and we have begun working on set pieces. The script is just about finished. All we need now is a little help to get it done.
This is a SAG-AFTRA project.
What the money will be used for!
We are using legit people and legit equipment.
Even though we are getting extremely friendly rates, we are still using SAG actors.
We'll be shooting on a RED EPIC-W with legit lenses.
Creating a DCP (Digital Cinema Package) to screen the short film in a theater or most festivals costs a couple hundred dollars.
We'll be working with a crew of professionals regularly producing high-quality projects such as film and commercials in Texas.
We will have to feed the crew, manage locations, pay for expendables on set and the grip truck and additional gear.
A small portion of the budget will help ensure our props and art are up to par.
Another part of the funding will be used for entry fees in a dozen plus film festivals.
Most of the personnel on this project will be offering their expertise and effort for a fraction of what they should be making.
Assuming we get funding, we are scheduled to shoot in August, post-production work is in August/September, initial finishing in late September, festival submissions begin in the Fall and go through Winter, hoping to premiere in early 2018 with distributing to backers in early 2018. After that, we hope to be making a number of film festivals through 2018.
$20K Stretch Goal
We would really prefer to pay our crew more appropriately. If we're able to raise a total of $20,000, we'll pay those involved with the production of this short film. That's what we want to do. You can help us do right by those who make all of this actually work. Even this much money will not pay everyone at "full rate" but it will get much much closer. All money that comes in towards this goal will be distributed to the cast and crew towards their contributions to making this work.
$+ Beyond the Stretch Goal
Once the project is paid for, a really important aspect of this project's success can be tied to promotion. Any funds that go beyond what we have outlined will go towards ongoing promotion of the project, increasing its visibility and your return on investment in the form of satisfaction knowing that more and more people are able to enjoy what our backers have enabled.
Risks and challenges
Risks... well, not getting enough funding is a bit of a risk. We need your help. We've got good people. Great people. Great gear. A great script. Anytime you attempt greatness on low-budget, it's a little risky... so you can help us with that at least a little bit!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
