This is us. Two creative women, hell bent on creating a sustainable, collaborative jewellery collection. We met at college and have been friends ever since, sharing an interest in the design process while both carving out a career in our own creative fields.
We decided to collaborate after recognising a gap in the market for more sustainable laser cut and DIY jewellery. This project is exciting and challenging and so important to us. It's just the start of a long journey to bring good design and sustainable living together.
With this collection of statement earrings, we have strived to create pieces you'll want to wear again and again. We hope the careful consideration put into the design has produced pieces that you will treasure for a lifetime.
Francesca runs the award winning blog Fall For DIY and craft kit business We Make Collective. She has vast experience designing and producing DIY kits that use up to date techniques, materials and offer professional results.
Rebecca started Working Clasp Jewellery, making her range of laser cut acrylic and wooden jewellery over 10 years ago. She also runs jewellery making workshops where she loves seeing what people can create from simple laser cut forms.
We came together to create a collection of acrylic jewellery which was inspired by fashion with a handmade ethos. We chose a rich colour palette that gives our earrings a modern twist on laser cut accessories.
Currently our designs use 20% recycled acrylic but we have big plans to increase this. It's difficult to source 100% recycled acrylic in smaller runs, but the more money we make, the more we'll be able to buy. That's why we need you!
Rebecca typically uses industry offcuts to create her bespoke pieces. All of her offcuts are donated to non-profit organisations.
We will be using recycled and recyclable packaging and aiming to offset the carbon footprint created during our manufacturing process.
We have several options for you to pledge and help us make our goal. We have created a limited edition pin badge or earring set which make beautiful gifts (for others or yourself). These will only be available through the Kickstarter so if you'd like one pledge now!
You can also pledge to buy one of our four sets of earrings for a 20% discount on the retail price. If you're in love with the whole set you can pledge to receive them all with a 30% discount on the retail price. All to be delivered in time for Christmas!
If you're more interested in making your own, we have put together everything you need to design and create your own sustainable jewellery. You can pledge to receive our kit, which includes 25 interchangeable birchwood shapes, along with everything you need to make your own wooden jewellery collection.
+ 25 laser cut wooden shapes
+ Jump rings + Jewellery pliers + Earring posts
+ Pin badge backs
This kit was designed to create wooden jewellery that not only looks beautiful on its own but also has the potential for customisation. With so many applications, from mixing and matching the shapes to painting, etching, drawing, decoupaging and other decorative finishes. You'll have access to a range of DIY tutorials to help you achieve these results.
If you have any questions please do reach out to us. We'll be more than happy to answer the best we can!
Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge is creating a collection with sustainable materials and processes. We have sourced and costed materials ready to purchase when we meet our target.
Once we have the materials we have a timeline in place for producing and posting the products. We aim to do all manufacturing and packaging in-house which means we have total control over timings. We will be posting well within the time limit for Christmas mail.
There are some risks. If our machinery breaks down we can outsource the laser cutting easily. We will have to wait for the delivery of our materials. If these are delayed it could have an impact on production. We have allowed for delays in our plan and can order elsewhere.
