About this project
UPDATE, 10/14: I'm presenting a prize to the backer, either by pledging or increasing his/her pledge, who puts us over the top. This prize is an upgrade to the $600 Giancarlo Caracuzzo package from wherever they pledged. Check this tier out: it is one fine bag o' swag!
UPDATE, 10/13: The limit on the Ominbus Plus One level has been lifted!
UPDATE, 10/4: First stretch goals have been announced!
At $650 above goal ($17,800), I will provide the cover for the next Amiculus project, Amiculus: Domina, as an author-and-artist signed 8 x 10 mini-poster for all backers receiving print rewards ($15 and up) and will include it as a page in Volume III and the Omnibus. Also, for every $250 after this, I will add one page from Amiculus: Domina to Volume III and the Omnibus as a preview! (Limit of seven total pages.)

ALSO, I HAVE ADDED THE OMNIBUS TO OTHER REWARD LEVELS, AND WILL BE OFFERING THE OPTION TO SWITCH OUT A THREE-VOLUME COLLECTION FOR AN OMNIBUS AT THE $55 LEVEL OR HIGHER!
Amiculus: A Secret History is an original, epic three-part graphic novel series telling a lost history of the Fall of Rome, written by Travis Horseman and lavishly rendered by 30-year comics veteran Giancarlo Caracuzzo.
Thanks to the generous support of its many backers, this series was launched in 2014 following the successful Kickstarter funding of the 64-page Volume I: Roma Aeterna, and continued in 2015 with the funding of the 80-page Volume II: Flagellum Dei. Both volumes are currently available on Amazon as well.
This campaign is dedicated to the culmination of the trilogy with the 80-page Volume III: Damnatio Historiae.
Volume I: Roma Aeterna asked the question, "did Rome fall...or was it pushed?" It then introduced the menacing, mysterious figure Amiculus, a seemingly unstoppable scourge, who aids the barbarian hordes as they tear the Western Empire apart, inching toward Rome and the young emperor at its heart.
Volume II: Flagellum Dei delved deeper, revealing past secrets of Romulus, boy-emperor of Rome, his father, General Orestes, and his linkage to Attila the Hun, and the origin and nature of Amiculus himself.
In Volume III: Damnatio Historiae, Amiculus looms over Rome, dominant, unopposed, ready to ring down the curtain on the thousand-year empire. Yet despite its mortal wounds, Rome remains a deadly foe. General Orestes lies in wait with a final weapon to unleash against his nemesis. In the fiery climax of this series, Amiculus will stand revealed, either triumphant in Rome’s ruins, or as its final victim.
The success and publication of Volumes I and II are the latest of many milestones in the years-long journey of this project. In that time, I absorbed a library's worth of research, traveled to Rome to gather hundreds of model pictures, and secured a truly international production team, including Roman artist Giancarlo Caracuzzo.
Some significant new rewards are being added for this campaign, alongside familiar favorites. Here are some of the highlights:
Thanks to the success of the Volume I & II campaigns, art production for this trilogy is 67% complete! The proceeds of this campaign will primarily provide completion funds for Volume III (line art, coloring, lettering), as well as satisfying costs for printing, distribution and fees.
Risks and challenges
With two successful campaigns in two years, I am confident that the Amiculus track record speaks for itself. Processes for printing, shipping and reward provisioning have been solidly established, and improved upon between the Volume I and II campaigns. With three volumes plus an omnibus, there will be the potential for a much larger print run than in previous campaigns, but we have partnered with an extremely reliable print-on-demand company for order execution. A production schedule of 8-9 months is expected to be sufficient for this campaign, as it was for the Volume II campaign. I maintain my current practice of regular and detailed contact with backers on all steps of the process, along with prompt responses to backer questions and concerns.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
