About this project
"For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return" Leonardo da Vinci
THE MAN WHO FLEW TO EARTH captures one man's quest to achieve the seemingly impossible: to jump out of a helicopter at 2,400ft and land without using a parachute.
WHAT IS THIS?
The Man Who Flew To Earth is a documentary feature film, that follows the lives of Gary Connery and his Wingman Mark Sutton, as they plan, prepare and undertake a feat deemed to be impossible.... To fly and land a wingsuit without using a parachute.
WHAT IS THE AIM?
We have 30 days to reach our target and raise enough money to complete post production of the documentary. It is ALL or NOTHING funding.
Together we can create an incredible and inspiring film, from over 50 hours of breathtaking 'never before seen' footage and interviews.
Everything is lined up and prepared to finish production, NOW WE NEED YOUR HELP!
WHAT IS THE MAN WHO FLEW TO EARTH ABOUT?
It's not just about a death defying world first that made aviation history. Gary Connery’s attempt to fly confronts us and causes us to consider some of humanities greatest questions.
Director Roy takes us beyond the art of flight and causes us to consider what lies at the very heart of our reason for being. The film examines why we strive to achieve the seemingly impossible, revealing the psychological battle Gary faces and the profound effect this has on everyone around him.
It's a story about what can be achieved when one person's dream captures the imagination and the support of a whole community.
The footage follows an emotional rollercoaster which could never have been predicted. Setbacks and obstacles appear at every turn, and with just days to go before the stunt, a story in a national newspaper crushes the team and puts the whole event in jeopardy.
The jump itself went down in history and was reported around the world. Sadly, events a year on from that day will also never be forgotten by anyone involved.
Mark Sutton, Gary's wingman for the stunt, close friend to the team and a driving force behind this documentary, lost his life in a tragic Wingsuit accident in France.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
Mark was helping fund the project as it went onto post production. Without him everything was put on hold and it became uncertain if the film would still get made.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO FINISH THIS FILM?
We will finish production in honour of Mark. He wanted to create an uplifting documentary that would inspire people around the world to do more of what they love.
At a time when the media focuses so heavily on the elements of life that divide us, help us to tell a story about people from all different walks of life, coming together on one day, in a field in England, to make the impossible, possible.
Please JOIN US in making a film that will:
- Bring people together.
- Inspire them.
- Show what can be achieved when we are united.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
Please share and spread the word about this campaign.
Check out the rewards! We have done our best to provide exclusive items and once in a lifetime experiences for everyone who can help us reach our target over the next 30 days.
Together we can make this happen! We hope the biggest reward of all will be the knowledge that you have made an essential contribution to producing this film, and putting out a positive message into the world. One that will inspire everyone who sees it.
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE SUCCEED?
Once we have created an award worthy film together, we will be securing screening and distribution deals that get it out to audiences around the world.
Our aim will be for as many people as possible to see the finished documentary.
Gary is one of the world’s most prolific BASE jumpers, notoriously parachuting from The Hilton Hotel in Park Lane, The Eiffel Tower, Nelson’s Column, The London Eye and from inside the top of The Millennium Dome. He is also the only man to ever skydive into an Olympic opening ceremony dressed as the Queen.
Mark was one of the world's top Wingsuit flyers. Best remembered worldwide for sky diving into the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony as James Bond. Educated at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he won the Sword of Honour. He received an officer's commission in the 6th Queen Elizabeth's Own Gurkha Rifles in December 1991, and served as an Army Officer until 1995. He died in Chamonix during a flight at the Helibase 74 event.

Risks and challenges
Film projects can be hard to finance and produce and this has been no exception.
However all of the footage has been shot and the most difficult elements of producing a film of this magnitude to the highest possible production values are now behind us.
We are entirely confident in our capacity to deliver a great film on time and on budget, and you can be too.
We will keep you up to date with our progress and will notify you of any challenges as they arise and are overcome ; )
