So what is Eat Me Out?
Eat Me Out (of House and Home) is a short comedy horror written by Tony Sands (Echoes of the Passed, The Bench) and Damon Rickard (The Tour, The Package, Dissociative and Stolen) and is also directed by Damon. It will make you laugh... well it made us laugh..... and it will make those of you that aren't a part of it wish you were. If you don't want to experience the Fear Of Missing Out Syndrome then send your cash our way and you'll be secure in the knowledge that you are vaccinated against FOMOS
It was the brain child of Tony who pitched the idea to Damon and he was instantly on board to both co-write and direct.
Who are these people?
Tony is a writer / actor who has just recently written and starred in the award winning short film Echoes of the Passed (directed by Scott Lyus). Tony has recently been announced as deputy director of the Unrestricted View Horror Film Festival. Tony likes to think of himself as a comedian and in fairness that is really funny.
Damon is the writer / producer / director of award winning short films The Tour, The Package and Dissociative as well as the non award winning short film Stolen. If you ask Damon, he will tell you that everyone thinks he's funny. If you ask everyone they will tell you they spend far too much time humouring him.
So this is a short comedy horror in the vein of Come Dine With Me. Six guests, six plates of food and maybe a little something extra on the menu that wasn't anticipated. Imagine Aaron Sorkin writing Carry On Screaming. Wouldn't that be cool. But anyway lets stop daydreaming and get back to this one....
This film brings together some fantastic talent both in front of the camera and behind it. And with the track record of Tony and Damon, you will get a professional, polished film. We can't guarantee you'll like it as if we could we'd be running Hollywood. But we can guarantee you that we love the script, we're incredibly passionate about the films we make and we'll give everything we have to make sure we bring you the best project possible.
We have been mainly funding our film-making ourselves over the last couple of years, pulling in favours left, right and centre. We try and avoid asking for support of the cold hard cash kind wherever we can but the simple fact for us this time is that we cannot bring this one to life without your help!
What do we need the money for and what do you get in return?
The money will go on covering people's expenses and dependent on how much we raise, paying them a token amount for taking two days to do this film for us (this often can mean people involved turning down properly paid work - people who do short films first and foremost do it because they believe in the project), purchasing props, getting kit, make up fx, feeding and watering everyone, costumes, location, post production and festival entries. The amount we are asking for is the minimum really to enable us to cover most of that - we are dipping into our own pockets too. We wouldn't ask you to do something we're not prepared to do.
Ultimately the more we raise the more can go into the film and the better we can make it so if you see that target hit then please don't stop donating - we have added in stretch goals (see below). We can also then give more back to the cast and crew. Those of us that are putting this project together however, do not take a penny from the money we raise.
You can see that from the films we have already made, even incredibly small budget ones, they get out into the public eye. Our films combined have had well over 100 festival plays so you can be assured we're not fly by night, don't know what we're doing, run away with your money types. We want you to feel comfortable that you are supporting a legitimate, quality campaign. We also have the precedent of previous campaigns which have fulfilled all perks.
You can actually see two of Damon's and one of Tony’s shorts on Amazon Prime (The Package, Dissociative and The Bench) and The Tour is currently sitting at over 80,000 views over on the Screamfest YouTube page. The Package has also just been played on Fear Haus, garnering 2K views in a week. Echoes is still doing the festival rounds and will be view-able soon.
So what are we giving you in return for your hard earned money.
You mean other than a freakin awesome short film of course! You could be getting perks such as
- A link to see the film immediately following its world premier
- Behind the scene footage
- IMDB credits from thank you's to Executive Producer
- Invites to the cast and crew screening and after party
- Personal thank you's from on set
- Unique to you signed Polaroids from the shoot
- Underwear (wait... what??)
- Personalised updates from the director on set
Now I know what you're thinking... did he fire five or six shots. Well to be honest in the excitement I kinda forgot myself. Wait no... that's the wrong thought! What I meant was... you're probably wondering what happens if we don't make our target. Well we will all sit there thinking what it could have been if only you'd been a little more lavish and care free with giving us money. So my advice is to be lavish and carefree so we don't have to sit there wondering this. Makes sense right?
And if you watched the video then you may be wondering about the pants. We have some women's underwear with the films logo printed on and will make Damon pose in just them to send out to backers. This will be available to anyone backing the project at £20 and over. Just add in the £1 reward and you will then get the photo updates in a personalised email to you. See the plate below for full details.
I don't have any spare cash... is there anyway I can still help?
We know people don't have cash just floating around unused. Even Bill Gates as I'm pretty sure he uses it as a money mattress. So if you are unable to put anything our way then we'll only be upset with you for like a day. But to help us be not upset then you can always....
- Tell everyone you know about it and that they should donate even if you're not
- Share, share and share again across all the social media platforms you can think of! Except MySpace.. surely just a waste of everyone's time...does anyone even use that anymore?
- Blog about it, if you know people that run websites get them to do a piece for us, call in to your local radio stations, petition the prime minister. Literally anything you can do which gets word out would be amazing.
So that's our begging letter and video to you (what do you mean you didn't watch the video....??). But don't forget to check out the perks and what you get for how much, And after checking them out donating at least £50. I know the smallest pledge is £5.. but really, to feel good about yourself its £50. And also don't stop reading here..... have a look at the cast and crew details. We're genuinely really excited about this project and can't wait to get it done so we can show it to you.
Who else is involved
Tom is a long term collaborator with Damon having starred in The Tour, The Package and Dissociative. So we're delighted to have him collaborate once more. He's a superb talent, annoyingly lovely and well let's face it, he's not too hard on the eyes!
Kat has appeared in Waterloo Road and Dead Ringers and will be in the upcoming features Innocent Candy and Here Be Dragons. She is also a stand up comic!
Mac is an actor and comedian, starring in shorts with Tony such as Echoes of the Passed and The Bench. He has a fantastic dry delivery and we're sure he'll keep the laughs coming!
Sarah has starred in Kill Kane, The Forbidden Note, Vilaria, Bonded by Blood 2 and Tango One. She also appeared as a student Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
Elena is from Italy and can be seen in Anna & Modern Day Slavery as well as the upcoming films Empathy and Dad.
Tony is... well Tony. He's in it. We indulged him.
There will be further cast updates coming over the next two weeks.
Producer - Chris Nials
Chris produced Echoes of the Passed and is currently working on a feature project. Chris also runs The London Horror Society. He is also very short.
Director of Photography - Jack Ayers
Having worked with Damon on Stolen, Jack has agreed to come on board to take this vision to the next level. Jack is a very talented cinematographer and will certainly provide the look we want for this film, making it feel a lot more expensive than it really is!
Sound Recording - MIke Chubb
Mike is another alumni from Damon's projects having worked with him on his own The Package, Rats (Damon was Producer) and Mab (Damon was AD).
Make Up Design - Lucy Clements
Also having worked with Damon on Stolen, Lucy is on board as the head of make up. She will ensure our cast's looks go with their characters. Its an overlooked skill when it comes to any plaudits a film gets but its an essential part.
Art Director - Freya Espie
Another alumni from Stolen, Freya also worked on the multi award winning short Blood Shed and has just completed work on an up-coming horror feature.
Script Supervisor - Jenn Dale
Jenn is currently in her last year as a film student and has moved here from California. Since being in London she has also been involved with the Unrestricted View Horror Film Festival.
More crew to be confirmed over the coming weeks.

Risks and challenges
Risks & Challenges
The sad truth is that films will always encounter risks and challenges.
Damon has experienced suddenly losing the entire kit (not literally misplaced but due to double booking by the kit hire company) the night before a shoot. However another kit was sourced minus some bits and scenes were rethought to cover this.
He also had to overcome an actor coming from Spain the day of air traffic strikes over French airspace. But did this stop him... no! He found the only airline not using French airspace, persuaded the actor to drive hours to a different airport (he's so charming) and got him here to deliver one hell of a performance!!
So basically he has experience as a producer to overcome potentially film killing hurdles through quick thinking, taking action and not letting anything beat him! This is the sort of person you'll be supporting. One who lets nothing get in the way of his dreams. Although peanut butter may distract him for a while.
Oh and Tony and Chris are on it too. They're also cool.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
