Corporia is a new tabletop role-playing game of genre-bending fiction and futuristic urban fantasy written by Origins and ENnie award-winning author Mark Plemmons. In Corporia, you take on the roles of reborn Knights of the Round Table or their supernaturally-powered allies, fighting an invisible war for justice in the struggle between otherworldly Chaos magics and the oppressive Order of the ruling mega-corporations!
The goal of the Corporia campaign was to raise funds to finish the rest of the images, print signed & numbered limited edition 208-page graphic novel-sized hardcovers, and distribute the books and other rewards to the backers - and we've reached our funding goal, plus two stretch goals (see below)!

What is CORPORIA?
Corporia is an urban fantasy tabletop role-playing game set in the near future, featuring the return of magic and the Knights of the Round Table. It's what happens when you mix Camelot with a spoonful of Torchwood, add a pinch of cyberpunk, a dash of Joss Whedon's Angel, and a sprinkling of Shadowrun. If you enjoy these, you're going to love Corporia.
- One simple, unified game mechanic for all abilities, including fighting, spellcasting, and hacking!
- All characters can join the Hacker in virtual conflicts; no one gets left out!
- Spellcasters can cast whatever they can imagine, limited only by their skill rank in any of eight schools of magic - and all 64 sample spells can be easily modified at will!
- Four personality traits (three public, one private) keep situations interesting and provide points for permanent and temporary improvements, supplementing the core dice mechanics without becoming the main aspects of the rules!
- Metal melee weapons are more effective against monsters than firearms, keeping swords and daggers relevant even in a future of X-Calibre energy pistols and glowing raypiers!
- An innovative, modern design style in a book full of page-turning concepts!
- "Fascinating, and a breath of originality in a space where it seems like you've seen everything. The mix of ideas is exciting and intriguing, and I genuinely look forward to seeing where it goes!" ~ Sean Patrick Fannon, Creator of Shaintar, Writer/Designer and Publisher, Evil Beagle Games
In the near future, corporations control the world, and Order is the rule of the day. New technologies clean the environment and raise glittering skyscrapers in outwardly utopian cities, but at the cost of personal freedoms and liberties. Humans toil in wage-slavery to powerful mega-corporations, pacified by drugs, cheap food, and free internet access. It is surely the time foretold in legend, when the Knights of the Round Table would return in the hour of mankind’s greatest need.
Yet the knights are scattered, their memories fragmented, and King Arthur nowhere to be found. Worse, the return of the knights breached the barriers of reality and opened portals to the extra-dimensional realms of Chaos. Now every day brings new horrors as magical anomalies bestow either superhuman abilities or horrible mutations on the populace, monsters lurk in alleys and underground malls, spirits return as electronic geists, and software becomes self-aware. The mega-corporations outwardly dismiss these outbreaks as effects of cosmic 'Flux' radiation (supposedly caused by the former government's meddling with the ozone layer), even while they wage secret wars to master this new energy source. Only you and your allies stand for justice in the struggle between corporate Order and magical Chaos.
Fortunately, you have powerful benefactors: Sir Lancelot (awakened as a megacorporate CEO) and his allies Sir Percival, the sorceress Nimue, and the artificial intelligence known as M.E.R.L.I.N. As a member of the Knightwatch, Lancelot’s secret special operations team, you battle magical monstrosities and augmented humans, dive into living computer networks, infiltrate rival mega-corporations, and more. The only limit is your imagination!
- "I’m excited to see a great concept like Corporia in the hands of Mark and his team. Reincarnated knights wage war against monsters in a corporate-ruled city? Sign me up!" ~ Ross Watson, Writer/Developer of Accursed, Warhammer 40,000, others
The core rules are based on a simple and intuitive mechanic where you roll two 6-sided dice (aka the Flux Dice) and keep the highest result, then add it to one of your character’s Core Values and a related Skill. (Rolling the max on a d6 lets you roll and add it again.) If your total is higher than the Target Number or opponent's roll, you succeed! You can mix and match most Core Values and Skills in different ways to fit whatever situation arises.
I’ve also incorporated this mechanic into spell-casting, allowing Sorcerers and Witchers to create new spells and modify existing ones on the fly. Hackers also use this mechanic to override and tap into a variety of technologies – and even bring other characters with them when they dive into infinite virtual worlds to battle powerful digital lifeforms.
Character creation uses points allocation. You choose one of three options (Touched, Gifted, or Fluxed) to focus on either Core Values and Skills, or supernatural abilities, or a mix of the two. You can play any one of 10 archetypes, including the Badge, Hacker, Headhunter, Journo, Lister, Radical, Runner, Suit, Thinker, Zero, either solo or combined with a Sorcerer, Witcher, or reincarnated Knight-Errant archetype.
Advancement focuses on abilities instead of levels. Each character has four personality Traits. When a Trait might come into play and affect the game, the player and game master (the Director) barter to see how many Flux Points can be earned or spent in order to use - or not use - that Trait. Accumulated FP can be spent on temporary and permanent improvements to your character.
Unlocked Reach Goals
We unlocked some 'reach goals' (aka micro goals) to help get us to our final funding target - and each reach goal was FREE to all backers at Citizen level (PDF) and above!
UNLOCKED! ($5,000): Exosuit Armor! This armor item is one of the best pieces of personal protective equipment currently produced by the mega-corps.
UNLOCKED! ($7,000): Outcast character archetype! Take on the role of a demonic-looking humanoid, lost far from its native dimension, and faced with the choice to either to join the Knightwatch or be hunted by them.
UNLOCKED! ($8,000): HEXer weapon! This weapon fires hard high-energy X-rays (aka HEX-rays), with each successful hit destroying all electronic circuitry and imposing a temporary anti-magic field over a 15 foot-radius.! (This item will also be added to the supplement PDF but will not appear in the core book.)
UNLOCKED! ($9,000): Knightwatch armored cruiser! This futuristic cruiser is the envy of all other urban security forces, and your character gets it first! Includes amazing rendered art and full details on armor, accessories, and more!
UNLOCKED! ($10,000): The Risen character archetype! Overlay this archetype onto a fallen character to come back from the dead! Oh, sure, you've got gray skin, red eyes, and a distinct lack of ability to heal from your wounds, but at least you've got one more chance to take care of any unfinished business!
UNLOCKED! ($11,000): Killer Rabbit! This special monster will be a little tongue-in-cheek fun for Kickstarter backers, especially fans of Monty Python and the Holy Grail! It will not appear in the main book or any of the other backer reward PDFs. A preview image can be seen in Update #25.
UNLOCKED! ($12,000): Future-Proofed! When I produce any other digital versions of this book for variant devices and formats, backers will get these for free! Possibilities include a text-only PDF for easy printing, a Kindle version (.mobi for Kindle devices and apps), and an ePub version (Apple iPad/iBooks, Nook, Sony Reader, Kobo, and most e-reading apps).
Unlocked Stretch Goals
All unlocked digital stretch goals were FREE for backers at Hacker level and above! Please note that, to avoid any delays in shipping Corporia, I’m creating the digital stretch goals after the backer rewards ship. See the "Delivery Dates" section below.
UNLOCKED! ($13,500): Quick Reference Cards! With their hardcover, all Knight-level and higher backers will receive at least one large (roughly 4" x 8")double-sided quick reference card printed on premium glossy 80-lb card stock, featuring art from Corporia and showcasing the most frequently used rules. It also doubles as a super-sized bookmark!
UNLOCKED! ($14,000): Character Companion! I’ll create a supplement with all-new character archetypes, rules, assets, equipment, and more! 16+ pages est.
We didn't unlock the rest of the stretch goals, but I plan on releasing these later, either as new Kickstarter projects or on their own! Keep an eye out for future supplements like the Caster's Compendium, Cryptid Collection, Corps and Cartels, and The City Chronicle!
What about Add-Ons?
To make funding less complicated for everyone, add-ons for Corporia only include extra books and personalized notes. After Corporia is funded, backers will receive a survey via email. You can use this to explain how you would like the add-on money assigned.
Add-On: Personalized Note: +$5 (FREE for International Backers): Increase your pledge by this amount if you'd like your signed & numbered hardcover to ALSO include a personalized hand-written note from the creator. (This is a free option for international backers, as a small bonus due to the additional USPS shipping cost.)
Add-On (for Knights and higher-level backers): Extra Corporia hardcover: +$29: US shipping included. (Outside the US: if you've already pledged $50 + international s&h for a hardcover, then just add $39 ($29 + $10 s&h) to include the new hardcover in the same package. If you want the extra hardcover to ship separately to a new address, you'll need to add the full international shipping cost again (+$20 Can/Mex or +$30 other)).
What gaming products have you worked on before now?
I have over a decade of experience in the role-playing and hobby game industry as a writer, editor, art director, project manager, and graphic designer. I've worked on the HackMaster, Aces & Eights, Adventures Dark and Deep, and Dungeons & Dragons-branded Kingdoms of Kalamar RPGs, multiple Dungeons & Dragons and Knights of the Dinner Table comic book series, and more.
I've overseen more than 175 gaming products through all stages of publication, from development to final production, and managed related tasks such as art direction, budgets, distribution, editing, and design for these and dozens more. These projects include RPGs, periodicals, e-zines, card games, board games, coloring books, fonts, and miniatures.
Prominent awards given to products I've worked on include: Best Game Accessory (Origins 2010 - Knights of the Dinner Table), Role-Playing Game of the Year (Origins 2008 - Aces & Eights), Best Game (ENnies 2008 - Aces & Eights), and Game of the Year (Origins 2001 - HackMaster).
What will you use the funding for?
I need your patronage to help pay for the art, graphic design, production, and distribution costs, as well as the Kickstarter and Amazon fees, taxes, and contingency costs.
The previews look awesome already! What do you need funding for?
As you can see from some of the samples on this page, the art and design will come from a variety of talented photographers, models, special effects masters, and graphic designers worldwide. The previews look good because I've already invested a significant amount of time and money in getting Corporia to this level of quality, but I can't complete it without your help.
The size of the book combined with the hardcover printing and the quality of the art and design mean that it requires a level of funding I can't tackle on my own. I think you'll also be pleased to know that I choose to print Corporia in the United States, rather than abroad in China. This is slightly more expensive, but allows me to be more hands-on with the product while also supporting our economy.
PDF Core Rules: A link to the beta playtesting PDF will be provided to Hacker and higher-level backers after completing the Kickstarter survey! There will then be a sixty (60) day playtesting period for comments to be submitted and discussed via the playtesting forum. I will then make any remaining tweaks and email the final PDF download link to the Hackers and all other higher-level backers. This PDF and the other Hacker-level PDFs are scheduled to deliver by the end of March 2014.
Hardcovers: The hardcover design files will be sent to the printer as soon as possible after I email the final PDF link to the backers. I estimate the hardcover will ship out to backers within 30-45 days afterwards. That means that the hardcover is scheduled to ship in or before May 2014.
Digital Reach Goals: Citizen-level backers will receive these items separately or combined in a single PDF (to be determined). Hacker-level backers and above will get these in the PDF supplement for their backer level. The special "Killer Rabbit" monster will probably be delivered separately. All digital reach goals are scheduled to deliver by the end of March 2014.
Digital Stretch Goals: The variant editions are scheduled to appear separately within the next 12-18 months. The game supplement PDFs won't be created until after all the purchased rewards ship, and will become available in the order they're unlocked. Backers will receive download links as soon as possible; expect each individual digital supplement to take me a minimum of 3+ months to write, design, and distribute to backers.
How will I get my digital download(s)?
- I'll send you an email (to the email address you provide in the survey) with download instructions when the digital products are ready.
What will happen if I move before the book ships? Can I update a delivery address?
- Yes. You’ll receive an email (to the email address you provide in the survey) asking you to confirm your shipping address before the book is mailed.
Will I be able to get the hardcover or PDF after the Kickstarter?
- I expect to have some copies of the hardcover left after all the backer rewards ship, and I'll make these available in some way. Check out my website www.brabblemark.com for more information on where you can find PDFs and hardcovers. Retailer backers will receive their copies at least six months before the remaining hardcopies become available.
Risks and challenges
The book and backer reward PDFs are all more than 95% complete, with the remaining work consisting of purchasing and placing the final art, incorporating any significant playtest comments, finalizing the index, credits page, and table of contents, and any other minor design and editing tweaks that might arise. This will all be finished shortly after the 60-day beta playtesting period (see the Delivery Dates section). To minimize any printing delays, I am using a USA-based printer that I have worked with on other projects, and they are very reliable.
Of course, like any creative project, Corporia could potentially be slowed or halted temporarily due to unexpected events. However, I’ve done my best to minimize this, as I mentioned above. I also have 10+ years of experience producing a variety of role-playing game products, so you can be assured that I know what I'm doing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
