The Nesty is the ultimate camper setup for any vehicle.
It folds into an ultra slim 8" package (33%-46% slimmer than other soft roof tents) and opens to a spacious and comfortable two person suite (as a 3 person tent) with all the elements that make you feel at home; elevated safety with panoramic views, a comfortable mattress, integrated twinkle lights, and storage pockets for the essentials.
And just in case weather takes a turn, it’s been engineered rugged with premium fabrics and materials that'll keep you comfortably rested for the adventures ahead.
The Nesty introduces a first of its kind, an integrated pole storage pocket, conveniently located near the main rainfly opening.
Once you've completed the first part of setting up (unzipping the cover, unlatching the compression straps and opening the tent) rather than search the car or tent for poles, simply un-velcro the storage pocket, grab a pole, & deploy the rainflys as desired. When its time to leave, disconnect and return each pole to the pocket. That way you're ready for your next adventure.
Depending on weather, the Nesty can adapt for increased airflow or shade. Drape down the side rainflys for more warmth, roll them up for more airflow or extend them for shade. The main rainfly can also be removed for more breathability - just unclip and roll it up for a simpler and quicker setup in summer months.
As part of this project, 1% will be donated to plant trees with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit focused on reforestation and making it simple to help the environment.
Each tent sale will plant 12 to 16 trees in our home state of California (depending on what offer you backed) to combat a record-breaking wildfire season that burned more than 1.3 million acres – an area the size of Delaware. Now we have a record 129 million trees need to be restored in California to help clean the air we breathe, fight the climate and provide habitat for 80% of our biodiversity...etc.
Depending the time and climate, your donation will plant Sugar Pine, California Redwood (State Tree), Maple, Elderberry, Willow, Birch, Dogwood, Cedar, Giant Sequoia, and Walnut. Help us make a difference.
The Nesty comes in 2 timeless colorways, as inspired from the Westy.
The Nesty mounts on virtually any vehicle’s roof rack with the following specifications.
- 2 crossbars with a minimum of 27.5" from driver to passenger side and 30" from the front bar to back bar. (Each tent includes two mounting locations for width from driver to passenger side... one at 27.5" for narrow mounting and one at 31.5" for standard mounting)
- Minimum of a 110 lbs dynamic weight capacity
If you have crossbars and they do not meet these specifications, you will likely need a new roof rack. Thule and Yakima are great choices with fits for most vehicles.
At this point in time, the Nesty will only be shipped to addresses in the United States - due to inneficiences in cost and shipping large & overweight items internationally. We plan to begin shipping in July, but delivery will vary, depending on the total number of backers.
There are two options to receive your Nesty. Either pick it up from our warehouse near Los Angeles, CA (in Mira Loma, CA... the Inland Emprire), or have it shipped door to door for a $275 flat rate in the continental US (lower 48 states).
Note: If you chose pick up for your Nesty, please make sure it will fit in your vehicle. Box dimensions are 49"W x 57"L x 11" H, and weight is a 110 lbs.
My name is Ryan Minarik and I am the founder of Reform (Brand & Product) and Reform Life (Adventure & Minimalism Blog). Both were created from the lessons learned from a 1980 VW Westfalia - living outside and more deliberately with less.
It all started after 6 years in a corporate career with a trailing feeling of unhappiness with no resolution. Until one day - when I had a relatively simple realization; I was happiest outdoors in my 1980 VW Vanagon with the basics.
So from 2016 to 2017, I began to implement this learning into daily life by getting rid of nearly everything I owned, except for a basic capsulized wardrobe by season, outdoor gear, my van and a 4x4 truck.
Then in early 2017, I still wanted to learn more about simple on-the-go lifestyles, so I began interviewing and documenting others’ journeys to a Reformed Life on my Instagram and Blog (@reform_life & reformlife.com), which exploded into a worldwide community of over 50 thousand people. This confirmed to me it was all possible - I was onto something.
In May 2017, I decided to leave my corporate career and trade my desk for the outdoors - so I could take back control of my time and invest in my values instead of in things... to live reformed.
Since, I've spent the majority of my days outside - in my van by the ocean or in my truck in the mountains, all while designing and developing the Nesty as a more reliable option to recreate the discoveries I found in my Westy - of finding yourself outside comfort.
I now hope my efforts and learnings help others discover a template to living more deliberately, a reformed life.
Risks and challenges
Having over 7 years of experience in developing 37 products from ideation to market, I feel adequately prepared to deliver and launch the Nesty Roof Tent.
With that being said, communication is key to any relationship (especially between backers and creators). We will update you and work to keep this project as transparent as possible, as if you were working alongside us.
The main challenge of this product relative to others, is its size - which is why it has been limited to the United States. Delays are also always a risk, but we promise to keep you in the know on what's happening in development.
