"Be who you were created to be, and you will set the world on fire." - St. Catherine of Sienna
Help us reach our goal of $22,000! We have 28 days to raise this money. When we do, we will be able to bring our First Collection to life, and have the security of launching our Pilot Program for young women in the schools in Fall of 2015!
You can support us by clicking "Back this Project" on the top right of this page or select any of the pledge amounts found in the right hand column on this page. Scroll down to read more about us, and to see drawings of our First Collection of pouches, scarves and cards.
WHO WE ARE
The Self Love Project is a non-profit organization whose MISSION is to develop and distribute self love mentoring curriculum that empowers young women and girls to trust and nurture themselves, and gain the confidence to make life decisions that are uniquely right for them.
We are set to launch our Pilot Program in the schools in the fall of 2015.
Our VISION is to create a global community where women and girls can authentically and effectively support each other in their journey of self-love, lifestyle choices, career goals, and entrepreneurial endeavors.
Our work is driven by a team of professionals, who make up our board of directors, as well as a growing tribe of contributors.
Through self-exploration and discovery, the curriculum addresses the following issues + more:
peer pressure, unrealistic expectations of media, how to differentiate between real and fake friends, and how to grow a support network
The programs are tailored for middle school, high school, college and after-school programs.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN?
TO RAISE MONEY for the MINIMUM ORDER of pouches, scarves and cards.
While we welcome donations, and will be applying for grants, we also want to be self-sustainable. That's why we've partnered with women-driven non-profit organizations in India to create beautiful handmade pouches, scarves and cards to sell in order to fund our efforts.
Our goal is to launch one to three collections per year. This is our FIRST COLLECTION.
These products will be available for purchase on our website. Your pledge will help make this a reality.
I (Amanda, the founder) am currently in India for the next two months, meeting with the women who will be making our products. It is important for us to be part of the creation process to ensure our vision is being translated correctly. You'll be able to follow along our journey, as I share updates via our social media channels and on our blog.
Be one of the first to support us and pre-order your pouch (or scarf or set of cards) by backing us today!
Each pouch will have similar traits including the following:
handmade with gray canvas on the bottom with handwoven fabric (called khadi) on the top
brass zipper + lined with a fold over option
Here are the designs we are prototyping. PLEASE NOTE: the following designs, prints and colors are subject to change depending on how the prototyping process goes.

We hope you connect to our vision and want to help us make it a reality.
Since our inception in July 2014, we've had to let go of several deadlines. We've realized that things can sometimes take longer than we anticipate.
For example, I underestimated how long it'd take to edit the video for this Kickstarter campaign, how long it would take to receive the final quote from our suppliers, and even how long it'd take for us to have things in place to apply for our 501(c)3 status. (Which we now have, by the way.)
Through these experiences, we now know that we might not always meet our deadlines. And, while we believe in setting realistic deadlines in order to stay on top of our goals, we also recognize that we are an organic organization, and want to be shaped by the communities we serve.
As a result we let go, and let in.
We're happy that opportunities always seem to present themselves at just the right times. We are open to new connections and ideas, and hope that whoever backs our project shares these values with us.
We wouldn't have been able to accomplish everything we've done in the last seven months without the help of our board members and volunteers. Every week we get more emails from women asking how they can help and get involved.
We trust that what we're doing is not only useful and valuable, but also very much needed in our world today. We hope you think so, too!
Our founder, learning director and education director are creating the curriculum together. We have also partnered with high schoolers in the Mosaic Program in Columbus, Ohio to test some curriculum with students in that area. Before launching our pilot program in the Fall, we will teach the curriculum at a summer camp in Florida in June.
When a school signs up for the program, the teachers will be responsible for facilitating the program. They will complete a training with us, and also receive a teachers manual that will help guide the program. This manual will be filled with lesson plans and exercises for them to pull from. The cornerstone of our program is the workbook that each student will receive.
