Goal met! In less than 24 hours even - you guys are brilliant and there'll be a volume 2 of Unsounded because of it! So let's talk about some stretch goals.
$35,000 (6/20 - CONQUERED) - A book-exclusive Duane mini-comic taking place in Sharteshane. Did you ever wonder what Sette's hometown looks like?
$45,000 (6/23 - DEFENESTRATED)- A book-exclusive guide to the Tainish language, and a few choice phrases you can use against enemies and friends alike.
$55,000 (7/1 - EATEN BY A ZOMBIE)- Every book will come with a free vinyl sticker and bookmark of Sette and Duane.
My name's Ashley Cope and I'm the creator of Unsounded, an online graphic novel about a young thief with high aspirations, and the undead bodyguard suckered into protecting her. Unsounded is published online for free right now and you can read it for yourself at http://www.unsoundedcomic.com.
The comic stars Sette Frummagem, a streetwise young pickpocket eager to please her dad, the local King of Thieves. In order to prove her worth, Sette is sent across the continent to collect on a debt from her cousin, with no one to protect her but a mysterious man named Duane who... happens to be undead.
In the first book, Duane and Sette's trip was messily interrupted when they ran first into a man-eating tree-monster and then into a gang of human traffickers (and the cops hunting them). The pair overcame but not without Duane realizing Sette had led him far further west than he had ever offered to go, and not without Sette learning her bodyguard really is haunted by a zombie's desire to feast on the living.
In the second book, Sette has to avoid cops and robbers both and work her way into the mysterious country of Cresce, where her cousin lies in wait. If she ever wants her father's respect and his gang's obedience, she'll have to prove she's the toughest rogue around - all while trying to keep her attack zombie from losing his mind and making her his next meal.
Unsounded is rated PG-13 for occasional rough language and violence.
What's this Kickstarter for?
After the success of using Kickstarter to print the first volume, I'm back to try and print the second! Volume 2 will be a professionally printed, perfect-bound, softcover tome, and include chapters 4,5, and 6 of the comic, weighing in at 232 pages. All comic art will be edited and retouched, and there'll be new interior illustrations.
If you're new to Kickstarter, it's easiest to think of it as a tool that allows for preorder fundraising. If enough preorders are sold, the second volume of Unsounded will go to print and you will receive your copy! If enough preorders are not sold, no money ever changes hands and no books will be made.
Unsounded only continues to exist because of the support of its readers! When you support the comic you become a direct patron of a independent story delivered ad-free and unfiltered to your eyes, creator to reader, without any middlemen in-between. I hope you'll consider purchasing a PDF or a print volume. If you have any questions about the incentives that offer original content, feel free to contact me here or at email@example.com.
A Note on Shipping for Canadians
Kickstarter's tools aren't terribly useful for tailoring shipping costs to each pledger's country. This is most problematic for Canadian friends. If you're in Canada, please only add half of the additional international shipping that's suggested ($7 if it suggests $15, $10 if $20) and if KS gives you guff on the pledge page, say you're in the US. Please only do this if you're in Canada - if you're elsewhere and don't pay enough shipping I cannot send you your stuff! :)
Risks and challenges
I'm a one person organization. Everything is packed up and shipped out by me. Nevertheless, after the last Kickstarter every order was filled and every incentive delivered. I've now got book-shipping down to a science and I have my fingers crossed that volume 2 will run just as smoothly :)
So please pledge with confidence and know that I will do my very best to get you your books or other items in a timely manner. Thank you for believing in me!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
