“Voorhees” is a “Friday the 13th fan film that follows a number of different individuals as their fate unfolds during several chilling encounters with a masked killer in the woods near the old site of the Camp Crystal Lake grounds. The movie will be shot in the forests of Northern Virginia as well as the iconic waters of the Potomac River Gorge in Maryland. As fans of the franchise our goal is to create an appropriate homage to the terrifying excitement that “Friday the 13th” has offered its fans for nearly 40 years.
Wet Paint Pictures has made a number of short horror films and “Voorhees” represents our interest in expanding further into the genre. We do our own stunts, our own makeup, our own editing and have a generous (free) offer from at least two professionals to score the music. Our funding request on “Kickstarter” would be applied to upgrading our equipment in order to improve the look and sound quality of the film. In addition, we will need to acquire a great deal of fake blood. We are constantly looking to get the necessary clothing for costumes to help bring the characters to life as well as the appropriate props to bring the particular macabre skill sets of Jason Voorhees to the forefront. Did I mention we really need a lot of fake blood?
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges
The rapids that flow in the waters of Great Falls, Maryland in the Potomac River Gorge are both beautiful and extremely dangerous. We chose this spot as part of our goal to add additional atmosphere and excitement to the film. This location presents enormous challenges both in terms of film making and personal safety, but offers the chance to capture some stunning visuals.
An additional challenge we face is remaining true to the historic genre of the franchise so that fans will enjoy the film while also providing them a fresh perspective on the story. Fans have certain expectations for a film of this type and we will follow in those footsteps. At the same time, we are adding a unique twist that offers fans additional depth and texture to the characters.
Our cast of actors and crew is made up of several dedicated people whose passion to make this film is unmatched. But sometimes life can get in the way of artistic pursuits and we recognize that our unpaid group will be faced with family and career obligations that can limit the time they can devote to the project.
