Hi my name is Connor Quinn and I want to tell you a story.
This is a story about an organization that is doing incredible things for a unique group of people.
About a year ago I started working for a non-profit called Operation Freedom Paws whose mission is to pair rescue dogs with Veterans and people with disabilities to give them the freedom to live their lives. So far almost 400 clients have been matched with a rescue dog. All thanks in part to one woman's vision to provide that service, Mary Cortani. While I was working there I wrote an article in our local paper about the incredible things I had witnessed. After that and while I was taking care of a Golden Retriever puppy named Dakota, I thought a great way to tell this story would be from his perspective, in the form of a children’s book.
After many drafts, help from family and friends I finally came up with a manuscript that we felt told the story in a way to educate children about service dogs as well as issues that Veterans face after their time in service. My goal in taking on this project and creating this book is to help generate additional revenue for Operation Freedom Paws, so that Mary can continue her incredible work and expand this incredible non-profit.
Now I am asking for your help. I am not an illustrator, so I went out and found a very talented local artist named Susan Szecsi who's done some incredible illustrations (check her work out at https://www.brainmonsters.com/ ) and she agreed to bring this story to life.
This story will tell how a rescue dog at Operation Freedom Paws goes from being a rescue, to becoming a service dog and in turn rescuing his match.
All the proceeds from this kickstarter will go to paying our illustrator for the work she is doing and for covering the production costs of this book.
If you scroll below you will see some samples of the artwork that will be in the book, as well as different reward levels for your contributions. The book will also include 4 educational pages (for the Adults to help with any additional questions that might come up) after the story explaining the benefits of Service Dogs, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and more about Operation Freedom Paws, as well as the original poem by Emilio Gallegos.
We want to have this book completed by fall of this year and the rewards from this campaign being delivered by early December for the holiday season.
Thank you very much for taking a look at our kickstarter campaign and I hope that you consider helping us make 4 Paws, 2 feet, One Team a reality.
We would like to dedicate this kickstarter campaign to the memory of one of our service dogs who recently passed, Charlie.
Risks and challenges
Our illustrator is currently working to bring the project to life. I believe we have set a timeline that is very possible (Book to your door by Christmas) however, there are always unforeseen issues that may pop up. I will do my best to continuously post updates about the project and any delays that may come up.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
