Written and performed by Griffin & Muddiman

Even at their peak, stand-up comedy duo Ronnie and Jonny were mediocre at best. But at least they were friends. When they had a dramatic falling out that led to a parting of ways five years ago, Jonny managed to make his way among Z-list celebrities while Ronnie became something of a recluse. Now they’ve been offered a chance to reunite for a high profile one-off gig – but can they shake off the past and work together again?

Set in a pub in real time, the pair reunite and attempt to dissect where they went wrong, while reminiscing on some of their golden moments from yesteryear. The plot twists and turns as more about what really happened in the past is revealed, and blame shifts from one to the other until the truth eventually comes out.

Rather than being a traditional “theatre” piece, experiencing Ronnie & Jonny: Friends Disunited is like overhearing a juicy conversation from the couple on the table next to you over dinner. Audience members are other punters in the pub that the pair happen to be at, so prepare to be treated accordingly…

In more than name, the show does nod its hat to the late Two Ronnies, comedy geniuses and inspiration for the piece. While somewhat darker and a little cruder than their (almost) namesakes, Ronnie & Jonny does have friendship and forgiveness at its heart, as the pair learn to let go of their grudges and realise that perhaps they’re better together.

This is a show for anyone who’s ever fallen out with a friend, or been ceremoniously dumped, and follows those often cringe-worthy first steps of attempting reconciliation. It’s funny, it’s dramatic and also touching in its portrayal of two men too afraid to reveal their true feelings.

ABOUT GRIFFIN & MUDDIMAN

Ronnie & Jonny: Friends Disunited is written, and will be performed, by Steve Griffin and Keith Muddiman, who met at drama school. An unlikely pairing of a big, straight-talking chap from the dodgy end of West Edinburgh and a well-spoken gent from the south of England, these two hit it off straight away over a shared admiration for Britney Spears. Unfortunately, she doesn’t feature in the show, but hopefully she’ll pop by if she’s in town.

Steve Griffin is an actor and writer and is thrilled to be making his Fringe comeback 10 years after 2006’s critically acclaimed Esme Tales.

Keith Muddiman was the charismatic frontman of a band for 10 years before deciding to follow his love of acting, and has previously appeared in The Overcoat at the Edinburgh Fringe.
