About this project
ABOUT THE FILM:
When a friend told me he was anonymously performing (by wearing masks) in amateur porn movies shot in some guy named Porno Dan’s basement, my mind was flooded with questions. I wanted to know more - I had to see this for myself.
Although I didn’t know what to expect when I first met Dan, it was immediately evident that he was still in pain from his last break-up. So despite the oddness I initially felt about sitting down with a pornographer, I found I could connect with this feeling of lost love - a universal thread amongst us all. And as I soon learned, Dan's life was in the midst of many changes. He was just nominated for his first AVN Award (the 'Oscars' of the porn world) and it appeared as if his career was on the rise. More surprisingly, Dan also told me that he had decided to stop acting in his own films and concentrate on living a cleaner personal life in a step toward finding real intimacy. As a true believer in love, I wanted to believe that this could happen.
After this first meeting, I came away with the realization that here was an opportunity to learn about love in the sex industry. Diving right in, my husband (doubling as my cameraman) and I showed up for one of Dan’s basement shoots. We felt self-conscious as a newly married couple amid the porno lifestyle. However, the set was filled with on camera talent and their husbands - who also watched from the sidelines. What I soon found was that the more I followed Dan’s life, the more interested I was in understanding these relationships and how they functioned. And I began to see my role during filming as that of a cultural anthropologist, trying to uncover the true 'Porno Way' of life and love.
So for three and a half years, we shadowed Dan across the country, going between Washington DC, Las Vegas, Atlantic City and Baltimore. What we captured was a man in search of himself. Although he set out with high hopes, Dan’s plan to stay off screen goes awry as he falls in and out of love, starts drinking heavily again and becomes more chaotic. And from here the story may surprise you...
We are struggling to finish the film and get it ready to Premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah this January. We are coming to you...our friends, family and friends of friends, and total stranger who share and interest to help us get there. We still have to come up with funds to cover our sound mix, our color correct, our music and all the other things it takes to get a movie into the can and out to you the public.
It has been a long journey for us. As parents to triplets, it has been a struggle as well. We are so excited about finally finishing this film, and we hope you will find it in your hearts to help us get over this last hurdle. We thank you so much for your support and your interest. We hope you will be enticed by our very cool premiums...and please send this to everyone you know...and dont think you need to stop if we reach our goal. With Kickstarter its all or nothing, so we set our goal to be what we think is low to ensure funding, but believe me we need much more than that.
As we get the art work for postcards, posters, tote-bags,t-shirts, stickers, buttons, we will share it with you. It promises to be awesome with the crew working on it...see the names under the $250 premium. Artist Eric Rosner has offered to sign his posters if pick his design, so you can decide to have his or the directors signature on that poster.
