The Great 52Teas Take Over!
Anyone can offer you a lemon flavored tea, but how many tea companies will make a lemon cheesecake bar flavored tea? (We will!)
We're looking to keep 52Teas alive under new ownership and a whole new passion for tea!
That's the whole idea behind 52Teas - and we're looking to bring new life to this company. We want to create tea flavors that will excite our customers! With the unique vision of 52Teas - a new flavor every week! - the possibilities are endless and we want to take that idea and run with it to make some of the most knock-you-off-your feet tea blends!
Not long ago, we were offered an amazing opportunity to take over 52Teas from Frank Horbelt, who wants to narrow his focus and devote his efforts to his iced tea business. We're looking for help to fund this amazing business opportunity.
So who are we?
We are a mother/daughter team that want to bring our skills to this business! With Amethyst (the daughter) running the business side of things and Anne (the mother) acting as the mad tea artist, we have the passion, the creativity and the business sense to take 52Teas in the direction it should go!
Anne spent six years as an owner/operator of a tea business and when she realized that she loved tea - and loved creating tea flavors - but she didn't love running the business by herself, she decided to close the business. Then she started reviewing teas and has spent the last six years doing that for a tea review blog that she co-founded: SororiTea Sisters. Anne has the passion to keep the mission of 52Teas alive.
Amethyst is a focused, organized person who knows how to keep a business running smoothly. She's the person who will run the business while Anne is creating the teas.
Together, we have no intention on delivering the average. You can find the average in any grocery store. We want exceptional teas and that's exactly what we plan to bring to you!
Because Frank wants to narrow his focus to the iced tea business, he has told us: "unless we take over the 52Teas brand that after March 2015, the five plus year mission to create a new tea every week will end."
We really don't want to see 52Teas end. So that's where you come in, because without the funding that will enable us to pick up where Frank is going to leave off, we can't take over! Please help us become 52Teas!

Here's what the fully funded project will accomplish:
- We’ll buy 52Teas and starting in April, we’ll be continuing the mission set forth by 52Teas in October 2008 and creating a new tea blend every week.
- We'll be able to buy the equipment, inventory and supplies that we’ll need to get started.
- Band Sealer
- Shipping label printer, labels, and shipping supplies
- Product Pouches and Product Labels
- And of course, we’ll need inventory and top notch flavorings.
We feel like we've got the most important thing already in place: Passion. We believe in what we can do. We know we can take the brand 52Teas to even greater heights!
As we were putting this Kickstarter campaign together, we were asked about reblends! There are some very popular 52Teas blends that people want brought back! For these people, we have designed a couple of incentives!
Reblend Sampler Pack - With future reblends, we plan to reblend them only in larger size options. This sampler pack is something that is available only to contributors to this campaign! This sampler pack includes one pouch (1/2 ounce each) of each of the following teas:
- Graveyard Mist Green Tea - Marshmallow and Mint flavors.
- Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha - You remember those bars you enjoyed as a kid? Now, imagine a tea that tastes like that. Mmm!
- Maple Cheesecake TieGuanYin - Maple drizzled over a decadent Cheesecake.
- Pancake Breakfast Black Tea - a short stack of buttermilk pancakes, topped with melting butter and drizzled with real maple syrup.
- Coconut Cheesecake Honeybush - Fluffy coconut on top a slice of cheesecake. Yum!
Other Reblend Incentives: For those of you who absolutely love these teas, I'm putting together a limited number of larger sizes of these teas. The incentive will allow you to receive one larger size pouch, and you can increase your contribution to receive more pouches.
While we're at it, why don't we make this reblend thing fun!
The above reblends are already going to be made for this project. For every $2,000 we reach in contributions, we'll conduct a vote in the comment section and you can vote on another flavor to be re-blended and the winning flavor will also be reblended and available as a choice for the "I LOVE this TEA" size (between 1 1/2 ounces and 2 ounces depending on the type of tea) incentive. These reblends will ONLY be available as an incentive.
Once we reach the $10,000 goal, we'll add an additional incentive where you can buy a sampler pack on the reblends that you voted on! And with every additional $2,000 in contributions, we'll continue to add another flavor onto the reblend list and another sampler into the special sampler pack - consider it an extra bonus for those who choose this special incentive!
We reached our first $2,000 Milestone!
And our contributors voted on the first reblend, which will be: Raspberry Cream Cheese Danish Honeybush! If you'd like to add this tea onto your incentives package, you can add $10 onto your pledge for the large size (2 oz.) or $5 for the small size (1/2 oz.)
We reached our second $2,000 Milestone! That's $4,000!
And with the second milestone, we voted and the second (and third!) reblend will be: Sun & Cloud Mist -and- Blackberries & Cream Shou Mei! The reason we have TWO this time around is that there was a tie, and rather than run a tie-breaking vote, I decided to just reblend both of them!
And remember, each time we reach another $2K, we will vote on another reblend! Every pledge gets us that much closer to the next vote!
Everyone who contributes $52 or more to this campaign will be part of 52Teas Fanatic ... On our website we'll dedicate a special page that lists all the 52Teas Fanatics and as a 52Teas Fanatic, you'll be able to get 'first dibs' at future reblends and other special offers!
We're really excited at the prospect of being able to take over 52Teas and be able to create really amazing tea flavors! Please help us make this dream of ours a reality! I truly appreciate your support!
Risks and challenges
Well, there will be the challenge of dealing with my husband's complaints that there is even more tea in the house.
We'll need to fill a bunch of empty shelving with teas. We'll need the inventory before I can start blending the teas and once the teas are blended, it does take some time to allow the flavors to cure before we can package them up and ship them out.
And of course, before we can package them up and ship them out, we'll need to get our hands on the packaging and the equipment to seal the packages.
So, the biggest challenge as I see it is the time frame because we don't want to disrupt the flow. 52Teas is a pretty well-oiled machine after having been in business for as long as they have. We don't want there to be a week or two (or possibly longer) where there's a break in service for the existing customers. So our biggest challenge is hitting the ground running and keeping the company going without interruption and hoping that it all goes smoothly!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
