About

Here's the scoop:

Amy began her journey as a bookseller in 2000 at Powell's City of Books and has been working hard as a steward of the written word ever since.

After 13 years of working at Reader’s Loft, Amy is taking over the business, changing the name, and relocating the bookstore to downtown Green Bay. Virgina Kress, owner of The Reader’s Loft, will retire and close the bookstore after 26 years of business and make way for Lion’s Mouth Bookstore.

Lion’s Mouth Bookstore will be located at 401 N. Washington Street in Green Bay, Wisconsin and is planned to open at the end of October, in time for the holiday season.

Amy's vision for the Lion’s Mouth Bookstore is largely the same as what Powell's and the Reader’s Loft  has had to offer.  Lion's Mouth will feature new and used books, specialty gifts and cards, searches for out of print books, online sales of both new and used books, space for reading and writing groups, story times for kids, and various other literary special events. She is working towards cultivating a book culture in an area largely known as Packer Country and she is eager to see what this next chapter will reveal.

“I am looking forward to being in the Downtown District where there is a number of hotels, the Brown County Central Library, the court house, the Meyer Theater,   corporate offices, condos and apartments, the Fox River Trail, and the CityDeck, a place where kids tend to gather and hang out,” states Mazzariello. “I really think as a bookseller it is important to be where the kids are. They are our future readers after all and I want Lion’s Mouth to help create a book culture for them, too.”

Besides running the Lion’s Mouth Bookstore, Amy will also continue her role as Advisory Board Member for Green Bay’s UntitledTown Book and Author Festival. The annual festival has brought big name authors to the area, such as Margaret Atwood, R.L. Stine, Roxane Gay, Walter Mosley, Susan Orlean, Rebecca Makkai, Christopher Moore and Danez Smith.

This year the Lion's Mouth will be in the heart of the festival footprint, making it easy for festival goers to attend events in a number of conveniently located venues while shopping for books to be signed along the way.

“We are excited to welcome Amy and Lion’s Mouth Bookstore to our Downtown District,” states Jeff Mirkes, Executive Director of Downtown Green Bay, Inc. “North Washington is about to see a burst of business development activity and the Bookstore will be in the heart of that activity. This store will be a great benefit to our downtown residents, employees, and visitors.”

 Why Lion's Mouth?

Lion's Mouth became the top choice for a name when Amy and her family visited the Benjamin Franklin Museum in Philadelphia during a Spring Break vacation.

Franklin was instrumental in bringing the concept of the lending library to the United States and helped to form the Library Company where this suggestion box was placed.

After learning of the suggestion box, Amy landed on Lion's Mouth because, as an Independent Community Bookstore, the goal is to offer titles that are suggested by or selected specifically for its shoppers.  We get to know our customer and welcome suggestions while working tirelessly to bring communities together in a thoughtful, welcoming, and intriguing  environment.
