About this project
BALDRIC is a Fantasy-themed and PvP-oriented MMO/FPS, developed in order to recreate the lost atmosphere of older FPS Role-playing games.
Its aim is to provide realistic combat mechanics in an Open World map with free-for-all Online PvP. In the game you will be able to team up and fight against anybody else, build your character with no class limits, and – most of all – have tons of fun in a sandbox environment!
Sword Fighting – Your mouse gives you full control over your Sword!
Melee fighting is realistic – the weapon follows your mouse movements to hit mobs and players. By making faster movements you will deal more damage, but your stamina will also be drained much faster! Combat is engaging but balanced for everyone at the same time. While fighting against other players in PvP you will also be able to parry, Good skills are necessary in order to survive long battles!
Spellcasting – Combine runes to cast different Spells!
When your Spell Book is open you will find a list of spells which can be cast by dragging your mouse on the runes and repeating the exact symbol sequence shown on the book. There is no cast time or cool-down, but you need to be fast and accurate in order to perform the sequence correctly and hit effectively!
Free-for-all PvP with no limits to
what you can do!
PvP is the core of the game – you can fight any other player in any moment and in any place. Why? Because it’s tons of fun!
You will be able to engage in improvised duels with people you never met before, or decide to co-operate with them to complete a quest or to raid another team. Once you achieved your goal, you can even backstab your former team mates! Or how about using them as bait in a boss battle to save yourself from a difficult situation? The game is all about spontaneous and free-for-all combat, not only you could deceive and slay anyone – but the game’s mechanic actually encourage you to do that.
However, pay attention when you attack players 10 levels or more weaker than you – they’ll have their own way to protect themselves. Spawn points and cities will also be a very difficult place to stir up some mayhem, since the NPC guards won’t let spawn-camping and NPC killing go unpunished!
The game will be balanced with lots of fun for everyone, new players included, and will provide safe areas where you can relax, chat and build your character without worrying too much (well, sort of).
Character development – Unlimited Customization – No "Class" limits at all!
In Baldric, there are no templates or fixed classes such as “Knight”, “Wizard” and such. Instead, there are 8 basic skills that players can improve with ability points (gained by leveling up).
This system gives you complete freedom in developing the character, and you can create your build based on whichever style of playing you prefer.
But what if you end up getting bored of your build, or start thinking that you should’ve gone through another path? No problem! Resetting your skills is very easy and you’ll have endless opportunities to experiment which combination of abilities suit you the best.
These skills can be further enchanced by equipping items dropped defeating mobs and completing quests. You’ll also have Potions and Scrolls (single-use items which will let you instant-cast spells with no mana cost).
You can buy quite everything in the shops for the game currency. You can also drop items killing monsters: they are randomly generated based on different conditions such as level of the monster and rarity - a feature typical of old-school RPGs!
Guilds, territory control and siege weapons
You will also find special castles all over the map that can be conquered by players. They need to team up and create a Guild. In order to conquer these castles and organize a raid in order to defeat the “Castle Boss”.
Once conquered, you and your team mates will have access to special shops that sell better items. But most important, each one of those castles will give you the opportunity to buy and use one of the special siege weapons such as Dynamite, Trebuchets or Catapults. You can use them to defend your castle from enemy raids, but you can also bring them around the world to make some serious mess during your PvP battles. You want to use the strongest weapons of the games? Then you’ll have to conquer all the forts – but it’s not that easy!
PvE - Not only players as enemies!
While the game is more focused on PvP, you’ll also find that Baldric has a significant PvE side.
Mobs are all over the world except for the safe areas; they will attack you in any place and in any moment, and sometimes they’ll even fight each other. Dungeon Bosses, quests and special events will make your PVE exciting and challenging.

Currently, the map consists of a great
island called “Rivenfall”.You will find a lot of different
places to visit, from complex dungeons to large cities and
snowy mountain tops, and you’ll find out that exploring the whole map
is not easy. To move faster you can ride a horse. While riding you can even fight but you cannot cast spells.

What makes Baldric special?

A realistic battle system: forget about fights where you only need a single click to hit, you’ll need to have some skills to be effective both in melee and in casting spells.

Completely free character development: you can choose any ability to level up without the limits of classes or templates, and you can re-spec whenever you wish.

Old-school game mechanics: lately, a lot of videogames have focused so much on graphics that they lost the main goal of any game: having fun playing it. Baldric focuses mostly on that – playing it and having fun doing so.

PvP focus: PvP is the core of the game, you can do it everywhere and in any moment, in a lot of different and entertaining ways.

First person camera: we have chosen the first person user interface to give a more realistic and immersive interaction with the world.
Our Kickstarter project goals
We have been working on developing Baldric for the past year. A lot of nights, caffeine and crazy time were spent on this project! :)
Now we kindly ask your help to complete it - Baldric is in Alpha stage right now and with your help we can plan the release and hope that everyone will enjoy it in its completeness.
This is our main goal, but your feedback is also very precious and useful for us. For this exact reason we decided to open the Alpha server and let everyone try the game as soon as we reach the 10% of the budget, in order to collect all your feedback, criticism and reviews.
Release plan
With the Kickstarter funds we will be able to complete the game and release it.
We estimated a time frame of 4 months after funding the project, and our main goal is to keep the server open, to update it frequently and to have live feedback from our players.
The official launch of Baldric is therefore estimated in Q4 2015.
Business model
Internally, we discussed a lot about which would be the perfect business model for a game like Baldric. We are old-style players and we don’t really appreciate with the Free to Play model, since that can bring a lot of issues and can unbalance a PvP game. A subscription model is also usually not welcomed.
So we thought of a premium model: players will be free to join and play the game for the first 20 character levels. Then, if they like the game and they have fun, they can choose to unlock their character and reach level 40 with the premium account. The premium account will cover also future and significant expansions.
Using this business model, we can guarantee that the game will not be unbalanced and that there won’t be much of an advantage for a paying user when fighting with a non-paying one. We leave this choice to the players, there won’t be annoying subscriptions, and at the same time we can continue to update Baldric and manage it.
Budget
We are asking your help to complete and release the game. The funds that we hope to collect will be used to improve the game, add new features and cover the costs of the publishing activities.

Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge is your feedback. We have been developing this game for the past whole year using our spare time and our sleepless nights, and it is time for us to hope that a dream comes true.
This dream is to develop a game that people like, and if Kickstarter campaign will not be successful it will ring some bells and make us aware that we need to work harder in order to make things better and bring the complete game to the users.
When you develop a videogame you must be able to manage delays and disruptions of the project, we know that, and we have enough experience to know the issues we’ll have to face when developing a complex game – but we guarantee everyone that we have still enough caffeine in our veins (we are Italian after all :) ) to stand up against any challenge and risk we have in front of us.
