About this project
We met when mutual friends were astounded that two such similarly minded people existed who didn't already know one another. Two chicks who rode the same bike and shared the same dream...to ride to South America!
We went on a searingly hot summer excursion to Salvation Mountain, Bombay Beach and Joshua Tree National Park to see how we would travel together and completely hit it off. We both felt exactly the same way about travel. We wanted to eat at the small town diner, meander among strange art on the horizon and camp on the boulders at night.
A year or so later, Becky moved into Andrea's room in San Diego to save money on rent and start preparing for the grand adventure. Evenings were spent at MakerPlace machining parts and on weekends Andrea taught Becky how to clean carburetors and do valve checks.
Andrea did a year long stint as a motorcycle mechanic's apprentice and was happy to pay it forward by teaching Becky how to work on her bike.
Becky started video blogging the journey from Alaska, and when Andrea joined the adventure in San Diego, she quickly learned the editing software. Her creative input and help has aided the evolution of our story telling style. Our blog updates are short, fun off-the-cuff tellings of our experiences as we go. Our editing skills have improved as we've gone and we just upgraded our video cameras in Panama too! We are both really excited to take the best moments, along with stories that were too long for our 4 minute updates and edit them into a polished and concise final movie.

Risks and challenges
We're well versed in the art of adventuring and while some unforeseen obstacles may slow us down, it would take a lot to stop us!
We revel in our ability to stretch a dollar. We're queens of camping and couch crashing. Our goal is enough to fulfill our rewards, get us to the bottom and do some cool stuff along the way, but anything above and beyond our goal is awesome. Having a little extra for the occasional splurge is good for morale. :)
While we really hope the DVD doesn't feature a special look inside Chilean hospitals or a detailed how-to on rebuilding an engine, we're committed to documenting the journey as it happens and these kinds of things will simply become part of our story.
We already replaced Andrea's stator in Guatemala and had Becky's top end rebuilt in Nevada. We've been ill and injured and prevailed with our motorcycles and morale intact. We're a tenacious duo taking on the world and we'll get to the bottom one way or another!
We've given ourselves a generous timeline to help set the right expectations from our supporters. We went from San Diego to Colombia in 7 months and we are hoping to take another 6 or so to reach the tip of Argentina. We're leaving several months of wiggle room for additional exploration and the editing of the DVD. We are not in a hurry on this trip, we are here for the experience and we want you to feel like you are here with us. Our go with the flow style of travel is what gives us time to mingle with locals, explore off the beaten path and stumble into unusual situations. We don't want to rush to the bottom and miss out on anything incredible or hurry to put out the final cut and have it not be the best we can do. Postcards and art will be mailed out during the journey; with t-shirts, DVDs, stickers and photos sent out after our return and completion of the final edit. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding and we promise you the final product will be worth the wait!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
