About this project
You wake up in the middle of nowhere and have no idea about what happened...
What are you doing in these woods?
Why does it feel familiar and odd at the same time?
Those existential questions quickly fade out as you have to face the harsh reality:
You are on your own, with an empty stomach, there is no shelter around and...
you are almost naked!
Nobody knows what kind of adventure you are embarking into, however, one thing is certain:
You are the hero, you take control of your destiny and everything is possible!
As its core, New Homeland stays true to the gameplay, the look and the feel of
classics from the 8 & 16 bits era. It blends the fun and precise controls of a platform game, the epic journey in a huge world to explore of an action adventure game, the raw action and challenges of metroidvania's dungeons.
New Homeland also lives in the times and features a world that is fully interactive, dynamic and alive by
incorporating a Life Simulation / City building aspect to the whole.
Moreover, the player is given a great freedom of action and growth integrating elements from a Sandbox / RPG game. You can be an adventurer, a warrior, a wizard, a craftsman, a hunter, a builder, a miner, a trader, a leader, a farmer...
In short, New Homeland is our answer to a simple idea that has been driving the whole design and project since the beginning : « What if, back in the days, the classics were developed using today's technology? »
New Homeland's world plays a central role. We want it to feel alive, immersive and
a wonder to explore... As such, It features :
- A wide range of beautifully crafted environments and reliefs to explore.
- Behaviors such as a night and day cycle, meteorology and atmospheric effects.
- A fauna and flora: they are given birth, they live, they grow, they breed, they die...
A real life cycle.
- For the adventurous, caves and undergrounds will be filled with treasures,
secrets and challenges.
- Procedural generation: Every game starts with a unique world.
This allows great replay value, increases the sense of adventure, makes both the initial setup and all the outcomes unpredictable.
What makes the New Homeland's generation truly unique is its focus on
good level design practices.
- Constructions: This world is not all wildness and great spaces. You will also stumble upon bridges, shelters, temples, villages, kingdoms. Not to mention the underground, they say its filled with dungeons and other strange places...
You are not alone, these lands have been inhabited for centuries by a number of peoples.
Each people has a role to play, and at any time they can change the history and
influence your journey.
They have their own specific traits, rules, laws, culture, jobs, architecture, economy, diplomacy... Let's meet a few of them:
The Vikings: Vikings are fierce warriors, their smithing is art, they are hard workers and live in comfortable houses made of wood. When on their side they can be friendly and funny, but their love for alcohol and brawling can cause mischief and dramas.
The Voodoos: They are said to be the oldest people there. They live in the forest and are militarily very weak. However they are feared for their magic powers and the many mysteries surrounding them.
The Atlanteans: Atlanteans are said to be the smartest people and their advanced technology proves it. Their fortresses are said impregnable and nobody has actually ever tried in a long time. For some reason, they have never crossed their lands' boundaries.
Just like in the good old days, New Homeland is a game whose Gameplay is king!
It blends a wide range of genres in a coherent and elegant way.
First, have fun controlling your protagonist with tight and precise controls:
Then, learn some basic survival tricks. You will also need a few tools and equipment
before exploring the world and going for adventures.
Set and ready? Start exploring the countless places, may they be the overworld, underworld, dungeons, villages... But beware, nobody said it would be easy and safe!
Ready for challenges? Then you will certainly want to delve into dungeons, find your way in these mazes full of dangers. Test your agility, solve puzzles, fight your enemies, collect treasures and defeat epic bosses!
On a higher level, New Homeland is driven by the power of peoples. You may decide to join a cause, be part of large scale war, be a diplomat or a traitor... For the most ambitious of you it is also possible to manage your own village and people.

Every time a multiplayer game is started, you, as a owner, will be able to give out 4 rings to your friends. Those magic rings will give you unique abilities and make your team stronger.
You are a Hero
Some heroes will never be forgotten, and it is up to you to be amongst them! Your name and a sentence of your choice ( a personal quote, a thought, an advice or a joke ) will appear somewhere in the world. It could be printed on a book, carved into stone, painted on an object... If you are lucky ( or smart ) enough to find your own name chances are you will be greatly rewarded.
You will be able to design a personal and exclusive item for your character!
This could be a simple decorative item to embellish your home sweet home, a sentimental or crazy object you want with you all the time or a wearable jewel. Each item will grant your player a particular bonus point, but we keep it a surprise.
New Homeland is full of unique Npcs and you can now design one of them!
Send us a picture of yourself, a friend, or even your own drawings. Then tell us about your character's traits and personality and we will bring your idea to life.

That's our initial goal. That will allow us to work on the game full time and
cover all the expenses.
Here comes the Hardcore mode! With its increased difficulty and its permanent death,
only a heroic figure would dare stepping into this world.
Finish the game once and unlock the Game + mode:
It will give you access to new content, new items, new monsters and new bosses!
This stretch goal will allow us to add a lot more content to the game.
We'll be able to make this game even bigger by spending more time working on new environments, biomes, items weapons, monsters and bosses!
We have been working full time on New Homeland for the last 2 years.
We are quite proud and happy of what was achieved already:
- The main concept and ideas have been thoroughly tested and
polished through many iterations.
- The engine supports most of the major features we have planned,
the heavy lifting is almost complete.
- The production chain and tools are all set and ready,
they are like a third man and are so useful!
- A good amount of content was produced,
enough to have a working demo, test the features and keep on developing.
We have poured everything we could into New Homeland and that includes all our own savings.
We don't want this adventure to end and this
project needs your help and support to come to life.
With the initial goal achieved, we would be able to tackle the next steps
peacefully and fully focused!
Being an ambitious project, and content hungry, New Homeland requires a large amount of content to be produced: from environments, fauna and flora, to characters, and the multitude of items and objects.
One cannot go with the other... all that content has to be brought to life. This means Integration, programming the behavior, testing, tweaking and harmonizing this all.
Hot Fudge Games is a two person independent developer founded in July 2014, France. It all started when former colleagues and friends decided to escape the industry. With that precious freedom regained, they can now put all their love, experience, energy, time, money and health into creating their dream games.
We are passionate about video games and our respective skills ever since we were kids. We also share the same obsession for quality, attention to details and black humor. We simply hope you love our games as much as we do, and have as much fun playing them we have creating them.
Doc – Artist / Design
Doc gets his kicks on modeling high poly disturbing monsters in 3D... So why do everyone keep asking for the cutest colorful pixel art? Certainly because he is very good at it.
Some day he will take his revenge and make an entire game with monsters.
Gringo – Programming / Design / Sound
As a kid, Gringo spent more time taking his toys into pieces to see how they worked than actually playing with them. Tired of getting constantly told off by his parents,
he finally found a solution that was both safer and a lot more fun:
programming games on a computer!

Risks and challenges
It is not secret, making video games is difficult and complex.
Many things can go wrong, running out of time and funds being the most common issue.
Our staff consists of experienced professionals who have released commercial games in the past and be part of large scale software development. We know the importance of a good planning, a realistic scope, self discipline and hard work!
