An exhibition series by Sterling Clinton Hundley.
"The Spoils of Saint Hubris" is the first part in an ongoing body of work entitled "The Spoils". "Saint Hubris" is a convergence of the then and now. It is an exploration of the ambition of man, the chaos that we try to culture and the resulting affect. This body of work is an exploration of timeless themes and bridges the chasm between technology and tradition in both content and method.
I will be pursuing this body of work through multiple exhibitions over a period of years.
The successful funding of this Kickstarter campaign will allow me to continue the development of the body of work entitled "The Spoils", through the publishing of an exhibition catalogue, the development of sculptural elements related to the ongoing series, travel to New York, art fairs and Art Basel, as well as exclusively focusing on work related to my personal work pursuits during the Summer and Fall of 2013. If funded, original paintings, drawings, etchings, prints, as well as in-depth documentation and accessibility of the ensuing career will be made available through this campaign. I'm teaming up with the incredible group at Triple Stamp Press and Team Eight Press to produce open and limited editions of screen-printed work created from the ongoing exhibition. As a veteran in the illustration world, a passionate instructor, and a writer, I intend to document my pursuits of a career in the world of High-Art. My successes and failures will be shared as a means of communication and education as I forge a new path into a challenging industry. In the fall of 2013, I've been awarded release time from the University where I teach the capstone course in Communication Arts. With your support, I intend this to be the most productive and visible period of my creative life.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I have made a hard break from a highly visible commercial illustration career to pursue this endeavor, seeking personal accountability and artistic honesty. Accountability embodies both ambition and fear. The risks that I will face lie in meeting my own standards and in demands on my time in a busy life.
Every component of this project is contingent upon the production of the work. A successfully funded Kickstarter campaign will be exceptionally beneficial in establishing mechanisms and external systems of accountability. Each reward is a byproduct of the original work and will be developed on a convergent course with the work itself.
