This Kickstarter is to help fund my Senior Thesis collection at Parsons The New School of Design. Its a Spring/Summer Menswear collection consisting of 7 looks and over 21 pieces.
Six months ago I started my research into my thesis. I was suggested to take inspiration from my childhood and after a lot of thought I settled on the Legend of Zelda, a game my brothers and I played from when we were children to when ever we make it home these days.
I looked into the creation process of the game and started developing my collection. I wanted to tell a narrative that wasn't just about the game but also told a story about myself and put myself into the video game
A substantial part of my collection has been the development of fabric treatments. I’ll be working with knitting factories, Swarovski embellishments, and various types of machine and hand embroidery. Another large portion of my collection will be hand painted silk to achieve the proper colors and hues my project requires.
FABRICS: To make this collection i'll be working with various types of fabrics and the treatments to them will add up in price, even with the amount of handwork i'll be doing. fabrics include raw silk, wool, powermesh and others. Leathers include lambskin, suede and stingray.
METAL WORK: My twin brother has his degree in metal work and i'm currently in the process of building prototypes for buttons, closures, accessories and eyewear that he will then help me produce.
OUTSOURCING: Time is a big factor in the production side of things. With the amount of hand work involved in my collection outsourcing construction elements might have to happen. I’ve done my research with outsource companies and the cost is included in my goal.
LOOK BOOK: When everything is complete I will need to hire a model and photographer, as well as take into account location and miscellaneous expenses involved. Everything will then need to be edited, printed and then bound for the final panel.
Thank you for looking at my project, Your time and support means the world to me.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk of this collection is time. As a student i'll be busy with various projects to complete my degree but my biggest priority will be the completion and execution of my collection. As part of the collection, the rewards will be finished on time and could be shipped anytime between May and June, once i graduate.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
