In Infliction, a normal family home has been twisted into a nightmare. Search through the tragic remnants of a shattered family, frantically piecing together the clues to help end this torment. However, you are not alone. Something is stalking you, a being driven by grief and rage, that holds you responsible for everything that has gone wrong. If you can live long enough, you might just find redemption...
Share bonus reward #1 UNLOCKED! - All backers at all tiers will receive a bonus ambient soundscape inspired by the in-game audio. Use it as background noise for your Halloween party, or to set the scene for your creepy tabletop RPG session. You could even use it to freak out visitors to your Halloween haunted house!
Share bonus reward #2 UNLOCKED! - All backers at all tiers will receive an exclusive short horror story in PDF form. Taken from the larger world of the game, this story will present one character's viewpoint of the events that led to the tragedies in Infliction. Is it a true account, though? Well, that would be telling...
Share bonus reward #3 UNLOCKED! - All backers at all tiers will receive an exclusive audio book version of the short story from share bonus reward #2.
Share bonus reward #4 FIRST DRAW UNLOCKED! - At 5,000 social shares, and again at 6,000, 7,000, and 8,000, there will be a random draw. You could win a copy of the game, plus a bundle of Infliction-themed physical goodies including a postcard pack, a huge A2 poster and a custom made voice message recorded just for you by the voice of the ghost herself!
You are not alone - A restless AI enemy will be stalking you, and you really don’t want to be caught. Will you run, hide, or find some way to fight back?
Warped reality - Explore a realistic, interactive suburban house that could be right next door, but which gets more fractured and twisted the deeper you go.
Piece it together - Read letters, find diaries, and examine the precious mementos of a broken family to understand the terrible events that led you here.
Almost too real - The story is grounded in real-world domestic tragedy, the fears and hurts that we all know: broken hearts, betrayed trust, grief, and loss.
Light and dark - The power of the Unreal Engine renders a photorealistic environment with dynamic lights and shadows that can dazzle you or plunge you into darkness.
Choose your challenge - Standard difficulty will occasionally point you in the right direction, but in hardcore mode you will be on completely on your own.
Serious business - Infliction's developer has almost a decade of experience as a designer, programmer, and artist in the serious games industry.
Horror games live or die on the quality of their audio. It doesn't matter what kinds of scary visuals I throw at players if the sound isn't sending a shiver down their spines.
Instead of a musical soundtrack, Infliction has a dynamic, ever-changing soundscape that reacts to events in the game in real time. It was created using tools such as Native Instruments Thrill, a tool often used to score horror movies. I've also combined a selection of library samples, recorded sound effects, and professional voice acting to build up the claustrophobic ambiance.
Check out the sample below, or download the demo and hear it in action!
Infliction is nearly finished and will be out for Halloween this year. This Kickstarter isn't to get the game made, but to make it better. Up until now, this has been a solo project - apart from a few 3D models and the voiceover actors, I made everything in the game myself!
If we hit our funding goal of AUD $12,000, I will hire a professional animator. The animation currently in the game looks fine, but a pro animator will make it really shine. Better animation means more convincing enemies, which means a scarier game!
This funding will also let me work on Infliction as a full-time job for the last few months of its development. Like a lot of indie game developers, I do this in my spare time while working a day job. If I have the freedom to work on it full-time the end result will be much more polished.
Whether I get funded or not, Infliction will be out in time to play this Halloween. The prototype is already playable from start to finish and I’ve scared the hell out of a lot of playtesters, so I know it’s already a good horror game. With your help, I can lift it to a whole new level.
I would love to hit some stretch goals, too. At AUD $32,500 I’ll be able to translate Infliction into six additional languages - French, German, Italian, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Russian. Reaching AUD $60,000 means I can bring Infliction to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. I have even bigger plans beyond that, but I'll reveal those later if you raise that much!
Every backer at Conspirator tier or above will get a digital PC copy of Infliction via Steam in time for Halloween 2018.
Some items will take longer, especially physical rewards and stretch goals, but my top priority is ensuring that every backer who is getting a copy of the game will be able to play it by the end of October this year.
Bonus rewards for all backers: To thank everyone for promoting this campaign through their social media, all backers at all tiers will also receive a creepy ambient soundscape, a short story e-book that expands the world of Infliction, and an audiobook version of the short story, in addition to the rewards below.
We have broken the $32,500 stretch goal into a series of mini-goals. Each of these mini-goals will unlock one more language at launch:
- AUD $16,000 - German
- AUD $19,500 - Spanish
- AUD $23,000 - French
- AUD $26,500 - Italian
- AUD $29,000 - Russian
- AUD $32,500 - Simplified Chinese
Risks and challenges
This is a low-risk project. The game is almost complete and will be ready to release before the end of October even if we do not hit our funding goal. If this campaign is extremely successful, the timing of stretch goals has been carefully calculated so that they will either be ready in time for the Halloween release or they will be delivered afterwards. I have almost a decade of experience in creating serious and educational games, so even though this is my first game intended for entertainment, I have lots of experience delivering big software projects.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
