John Maher was born in Manchester, England in 1960. A few weeks after his sixteenth birthday, he was recruited as the drummer for a then unheard of punk rock group: Buzzcocks. Five weeks later the band made their public debut, supporting the Sex Pistols at Manchester’s Lesser Free Trade Hall on July 20th 1976. Five years later the band split.
