Kick Your Legs Out: Ben Hanna's Second Studio Album
kids songs for adults, musical cartoons, and post-suburban Americana.... Experience it all here!!
I am very excited to share with you the primary source of motivation and meaning in my life for the past 12 months: my 2nd studio album, or as I affectionately call it, “my baby”. A lot has happened since ‘We Were All Like Whatever’ dropped back in 2013. Lovers have come and gone, I quit smoking cigarettes (then started again :( ), I quit my job of 7 years, got a new guitar, wrote a ton of songs, maxed out my credit, tracked a full length album, and- oh yeah, became a man. And now here I am, in the 11th hour of my big project, hat in hand, inviting you to join me for the final push…
Fastforward to now. The album is completely tracked and mixed, all with the help of producers Todd Adelman and Robbie Stiefel, ridiculously talented studio musicians have contributed, and super fancy gear was used. I have financially ruined myself and repeatedly asked myself if I am crazy, knowing the answer well beforehand ;). I stay up late at night and pray to the heavens that I will find the resources to master, press, promote and release the album, and still have enough left over for rent and toilet paper.
All that said, this Kickstarter project is an opportunity for everyone. You have a chance to pre-order your copy of the new album and get a few fun things you won't ever have the chance to get again; and I have an opportunity to make rent after the album is out because I'll be real with you; if you don’t help me pay for I’ll pay for it myself, and if it comes down to rent or the album, well…. ;).
I also wanted to mention this album literally changed my life. The experience of recording it provided me with a certain clarity around what I am doing, or trying to do musically. It put everything under a microscope and made me admit the soft spots and weaknesses (there still are quite a few ;)). It challenged me to dig deep and find the highest form of the expression of my talents. It repeatedly made me answer the question "why?". The result is truly special, and everything I just said is hopefully apparent somewhere in the sound.

And for all you window shoppers out there, here's some hot pics of some of the rewards!
Per Dan the Man's suggestion, here is a break-down of costs:
Mastering/ Making Certain Tracks "Radio Friendly": $1,700
Music Video: $3,000
Possibility of Renting Out a Venue/ Paying Band for CD Release: $1,500
Publicist/ Promotion: The sky is the limit, as some people end up spending more in this area than on the record itself.
Risks and challenges
Just like getting out of bed in the morning, there are risks and challenges that come along with everything; C'est la vie. That being said, the hardest part of this project is already over. Does that make you feel safe? ;) Let me explain;
I already wrote the songs. I already practiced drilled and rehearsed them. I already incurred financial risk paying for the recording sessions, and I already tracked and recorded everything. Also, I'll be darned if this thing isn't gonna pop it's head out into the world in a few short weeks regardless of the success of this Kickstarter project. That being said, I think the real risk is failure to raise the funds, in which case you will miss out on all the cool Kickstarter exclusive stuff, and the opportunity to be a part of something fun, and I'll have to go it alone :(. But hey, we're not even gonna go there.
All my love.
